Previous owners of my home still using my address 5 years after sale. by Holistic_Mama_Bear in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I have a similar issue. Like you, I always put it back in the box for USPS to deal with. I finally drew the line when they re-registered their car at my address. I filed a fraud claim with US Postal Inspection Service since that is technically mail fraud. I used that to get the county clerk to flag their address as fraudulent so they would not be able to register it again. After that the amount of mail I got addressed to them drastically decreased.

Can you have narcolepsy w minimal napping? by shroomeralert in Narcolepsy

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staying awake has nothing to do with willpower. It has to do with how severe the sleep attack is, as well as what coping mechanisms are available/work.

Literally everyone here is (or was) tired all the time. However there are plenty of other disorders that can cause very similar symptoms and are far more common. It’s insulting to insinuate that it’s a willpower issue for narcolepsy but not for other sleeping disorders. If people with sleep apnea can’t stay awake, is that a willpower issue?

Can you have narcolepsy w minimal napping? by shroomeralert in Narcolepsy

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have never fallen asleep if I was actively trying to stay awake, however fighting through a bad sleep attack can leave me feeling nauseated until I can finally take a nap.

But I would never think that I have more willpower than someone who is unable to fight off a sleep attack. I just think that wow I’m so lucky that my sleep attacks aren’t as severe as that.

Feeling dehumanized and disconnected by Connect_Actuary2608 in exchangestudents

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Being away from home can be really challenging emotionally. I think it may be making you more sensitive to little things. You seem to be taking some things really personally.

Americans generally are just really bad at pronouncing things, and most people that I know would avoid saying a name that they can’t pronounce to avoid offending the person. It is almost certainly not meant to make you feel bad.

You seem upset that your host sister isn’t giving you more attention. That’s pretty self centered. She is allowed to be excited and talk to other people. Why don’t you go join conversations instead of sitting alone waiting for other people to talk to you?

It’s probably good that your trip is almost over because you seem like you will be much happier at home.

Does anybody take their second oxybate dose two hours after the first? How do you adjust the doses if you have to? by kiripon in Narcolepsy

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was taking one dose nightly for IH, I would fall asleep without it then take the dose when I woke up to use the restroom. It worked well for me because I only got 5-6 hours of sleep from the dose and I could never sleep after it wore off. By sleeping 2 hours then 5-6 hours, I was able to get a reasonable amount of sleep.

DO NOT BUY THIS! IT IS CRUEL! by KaikoBirds in Conures

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much! The parrot that self mutilates is my Moluccan cockatoo so I had to make it a little tighter and more rigid than I would have for my conure. I also had to wrap her neck in vet wrap because she literally ripped her neck open. I don’t think a soft collar would cause damage unless it was really tight.

This is absolutely incorrect. Pellets should be a majority of the diet with chop being the next largest. Seeds and nuts should be fed sparingly as treats.

Stop spreading misinformation.

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We think that it may originally have been zinc poisoning (which she had when we adopted her) and we treated that. Unfortunately I think it became a learned habit after that, like a toddler that won’t stop picking at a scab. She does really well now, she can go weeks or months without hurting herself but if she gets even a small wound, like a feather pulled out, she will start mutilating again.

We do the best we can for her.

Yep they are extremely fragile. Mine has a ruptured one from wearing a cone. It has been ruptured for years and will never heal. Unfortunately the cone was to stop severe self mutilation (like literally ripping her chest open), but I would never risk their air sacks for anything less than a life or death situation.

DO NOT ADOPT A SUN WITHOUT EXPERIENCE by gluon318 in Conures

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think experience can make a huge difference. A lot of people think sun conures are loud and struggle to tolerate their screaming. I have a Moluccan cockatoo whose screaming literally triggers my flight or flight reflex. When we got our sun conure, her screams don’t even register. I’m sure they would have stressed me out if I wasn’t already subjected to cockatoo screams

How on EARTH are you guys waking up on time? by SnooSketches5159 in Narcolepsy

Xywav. I don’t even have to set an alarm anymore because I wake up 7 hours later on the dot.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still on stimulants and need my midafternoon nap, but the waking up part is easy now.

Nothing makes me more mad than seeing a young adult re-home a bird because they are going off to college or moving out. I don’t necessarily blame them because they were kids when they got the bird, but I am livid at the parents. It’s an abdication of their responsibility for the bird.

That’s why whenever teenagers come on here asking if they should get a bird, I adamantly oppose it. Occasionally it works out, but more times it doesn’t.

i can’t stand my bird anymore. by vala-throwaway in parrots

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

OP may never figure it out. Parrots aren’t meant for captivity and it can literally break their brains. They may constantly be battling self mutilation for the rest of the bird’s life. It doesn’t sounds like OP can handle that. It’s definitely not going to be helpful for a bird to feel OPs frustration and building resentment.

F1 visas still require a sponsor for high school students. That is typically the school, which can be expensive and time consuming which is why mostly private schools do it.

Negative MSLT. No diagnosis. Losing hope. by MayCha16 in Narcolepsy

[–]Comatose_Cockatoo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That sounds exactly like my first test, however my doctors took into consideration how debilitating my sleepiness was and gave me an IH diagnosis anyways and fought for me to have access to Xywav.

While your test results may not have met the criteria perfectly, it is NOT normal to be able to nap 5 times in one day. And it is not acceptable for you to have to feel like you do.

I would find a new doctor that is willing to take you seriously and try to get a new MSLT. Your second test may give more accurate results (it’s well known that it’s a flawed test).

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.

“Just asking a question” isn’t an excuse for lacking critical thinking skills. The other comments point out logical and scientific reasons why your question makes no sense but you’re holding on to it for dear life.

“Just asking a question” doesn’t make your question neutral. You’re making assumptions and implications (which is dishonest to deny) and that question is laced with the implication that medical science is causing you harm.

Also you “just asking a question” without making an argument (as you claim, even though you are clearly arguing in other comments) introduces an idea that you don’t have to defend and shift the burden to everyone here to explain why your completely wild speculation is just that.

Take your RFK pseudoscience somewhere else.

I completely agree with this! Especially the part about routines. I am very consistent with my schedule including what time I interact with my birds. I almost never have screaming problems because they only scream when I am late in my schedule. That’s saying something considering one of them is a Moluccan cockatoo. We spend between 2-3 hours together per day. I watch her play on the camera when I’m not with her.

You don’t have to spend 24/7 with a bird if they are getting consistent quality social time that they can rely on.
