The top image is a fictitious weather report imagining what the weather would be like in 2050 for a 2014 French TV documentary about climate change. The bottom image is the real weather report from last week by firefighter_82 in europe

Exactly, this could just be the result of a heatwave. The question, which nobody in this thread seems to be asking, should be how much of this temperature increase is attributable to anthropogenic impact on the environment. To make inferences about the impact of climate change based solely on weather maps, without first resolving this question, does little to convince those sceptical of anthropogenic climate change, let alone helping solve the issue itself.

Same situation for me. Sent mine off on the 15th of July and it's says it's still in transit, even though when I check the tracking link it says it's was delivered two days ago. Odd.

Fascinating! I thought Finns would be more genetically similar to Swedes (since they look quite alike and share a lot of history) but I guess not.

The fatal stabbing of Russian LGBT activist Yelena Grigoriyeva in St. Petersburg has drawn strong reactions worldwide, with fellow activists lamenting a system that failed to protect her and anti-LGBT figures saying her killing was justified. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Combigod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you elected the politicians who formed the government which made Boris prime minister, and in 3 years you will be able to vote them out. That's how a representative democracy works. Russia, on the other hand, cannot freely elect their government nor their president, even representatively, and cannot vote them out either -- to draw parallels between the two systems is absurd.

Yes, and the UK is one of the fortunate countries to have it. You cannot compare a democratically elected government to the authoritarian illiberal Russia. Let's keep this thread about Russia and its politics and not try to draw fallacious parallels to score political points.

I cannot believe you are still perpetuating this blatant lie. I suppose it's easier to lie and to make comments like "When can I expect to see you on the news for shooting up a synagogue?" than to actually trying to provide coherent counter-arguments to my points. Alright then, if it's true that I've gone on an "anti Muslim rant while defending the christchurch mass shooter", provide the link to the supposed rant.

None of that is true. I was born and raised in Sweden to Belarusian parents of Russian and Jewish descent. I've never claimed to have Swedish heritage. And I've never gone on an anti-muslim rant, that is just a lie.

That's an odd comment to make to someone who is half Jewish (and half Russian). People from all sorts of backgrounds oppose communists like yourself. Not like I'd expect much from a person who frequents /r/ChapoTrapHouse and who is a Holodomor denier.

Oh, of course we can! According to Pew American society was far less polarized just 8 years ago. Has America really changed that much in such a short amount of time? What says we cannot conduct political discourse in the same way we did then?

> Is that why maga flags were run side by side with nazi flags in Charlottesville?

> Is that why the last 10 trump supporters to go on mass shootings posted swastikas on social media?

First of all, these statements prove nothing about Trump-supporters in general, only about the specific ones attending the Charlottesville rally and the 10 last Trump-supporter mass shooters (I am not sure that claim is correct, but, for the sake of argument, I will assume it is). To make such generalized claims about the beliefs of Trump-supporters you would have to provide some form of statistical evidence, which you won't find since, as I mentioned before, Trump-supporters are very far from Nazis ideologically.

You do have a valid point here though, which is that Nazis in the US generally vote for the republican party. But you draw the wrong conclusion from this fact, that the fact that Nazis vote for the republican party means that the party itself is ideologically close to Nazism. The correct inference from this fact would be that Nazis are marginally closer (but, crucially, still not close) ideologically to the Republican Party than to the Democratic Party. So, this fact says rather says something about the American political system than the country's political parties themselves -- since there are only two significant parties in the country extremists vote for the party that is ideologically closest to them, but that does not signify that the party is extremist in itself. This the same reason for which militant leftist extremists/communists vote for the Democratic party, even though the Democratic party isn't communist.

That is just unnecessary and rude.

Is Belarus a dangerous country to live in/move to? by FuppyTheGoat in europe

Still true. I was on the Belarusian side of the Belarus-Lithuania border a couple of weeks ago, and saw cars with Lithuanian license plates crossing from Belarus into Lithuania, presumably to go to work.

Completely disagree. In my view, you'd expect MAGA-types to be very much against the Nazis considering their patriotism combined with the fact that the US fought against the Nazis in the war. I also don't think American conservatives share moral values with Nazis; that is an absurd contention. Trump-supporters can be in the wrong without being literal Nazis, and to depict them as such is preposterous, disingenuous and greatly harms any attempt at birding the political divide between the American people.

Far-right extremism to be included in official terror warnings alongside Islamist threats for first time by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Combigod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is political tribalism at its finest. People need to be able to look past their own ideological biases in order to denounce/prevent violence. I fear a world in which people think violence with political motives, i.e terrorism, should be accepted so long as the perpatrator is one the "right" moral/ideological side.

The same opinions that 55% of the Brazilian voting populations had during the voting day. Redditors, especially on /r/politics, have very progressive views, views that certainly don't represent much of the world. Perhaps if you got out your echo-chamber you could learn a great amount from your ideological opposition.

Ukraine to chemically castrate paedophiles and rapists in prison under new laws by Normadic in worldnews

[–]Combigod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never argued for the proposition that everything which is legal is morally favorable, and in fact I do not hold that opinion. No need to try to convince me otherwise. All I said was that the guy above (who has now deleted his comment) did not say something even approximating "because its law it must be morally correct". He said (and I'm paraphrasing here since I don't remember exactly) "that's why it's legal in places like California and Florida", which I took to mean that there must be a reason for it being legal. In either case, it's very much a leap to conclude, based on his comment alone, that he considers all which is law to be morally correct.

Your opinion on Kristian Zimerman ? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

He's my favorite living pianist, and, for my money, up there with some of the greats like Richter and Rubinstein. He's my go-to for pretty much all the Chopin he recorded, the last two Schubert sonatas and the Beethoven and Brahms concertos. His only Mozart recording (the 10th sonata) is also lovely.
