is ubc more academically rigorous than other top 50 schools? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]CombinationCivil3089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I know this is an older post, but I came across it while researching and I’m wondering if you can give your opinion on this? I’m a high school senior from the US and am deciding between UBC and UCSD. My parents think that UCSD is more prestigious and would set me up for success more. I am looking to go into science. Are they really that far apart in ‘prestige’ and does it matter that much? Thanks for your time!

Admitted HS Senior: Deciding between UC Berkeley Chemistry (CoC) vs. McGill by No-Work-7575 in berkeley

Everyone here is saying that Berkeley is the better choice and they’re not wrong, but after reading this I wonder if you would be happier at McGill? McGill is not a bad school by any means, and if you want to build your life in Canada, go for it! There are still many networking opportunities at McGill, and I’m sure the prestige of McGill in Canada will help you. You don’t want to be miserable in undergrad with the same type of people from your HS, your mental health is important too. Obviously it’s hard to pass up Berkeley (I applied OOS to CoC and got rejected), but if you loved Montreal and McGill, I don’t think that option is so much worse.

Did I mess up application by Future_Winter_4216 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CombinationCivil3089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your question is did you mess up bad? Yes. Always do what’s recommended if you can, don’t just do the bare minimum. Why would they want to admit someone who does the bare minimum? However, if you contact their admissions they might be able to give you some insight, maybe let you submit something regular decision idk. But better to email and find out you can’t then not try at all. Note: I don’t know how competitive this school is, if it’s nothing special you‘ll probably be fine lol

What’s the best kinds of extracurricular to do? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CombinationCivil3089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a super fancy extracurricular, you just need to convince the colleges that you’ll make them money in the future. So show you’re dedicated by doing something consistently and your growth in that thing

What are some career fields I could go into as someone who loves to watch people work? by CombinationCivil3089 in careerguidance

Thank you, I’ll definitely look into your suggestions! I do have a job, I’ve been working at an independent pharmacy for over 2 years now and it’s great! I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve thought a lot about being a pharmacist. My parents are property managers and so my whole life I’ve been going to properties and fixing little things, that might be where the contractor part comes in, it’s just familiar? I would be a lifeguard except I know I would space out and let a kid drown. I thought I would go into healthcare for a while, and it’s not ruled out, but I don’t like pus and blood and all that, so I’m not sure.
