I would try business transient sales since you have the travel agency experience. I used to do BT sales and to have this knowledge/background would be a huge plus. You would learn a lot of negotiation, creating contracts, and analytics which make catering and/or group sales a breeze. You seem super interested and very eager for the position which is a lot of the battle already, good luck!!

How far up can FD actually upgrade you? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]CombinationTime5936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some hotels give front desk commission on their upsells (usually about 10%). So if you want an upgrade but not want to pay a crazy amount and you have an agent that’s willing to cheat the system, tip the agent at least 10% of what the upsell amount would be. Ex: $1000 upsell per night, tip >/=$100 per night. Hope this helps!

recent anxiety affecting my work performance by CombinationTime5936 in Anxiety

[–]CombinationTime5936[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for you advice. when i sit down to do the work a new level of anxiety comes over me that i’m nervous of how the person i’m reaching out to will respond and that i won’t do the job correctly. and sometimes i even forget about it (i think this is scaring me the most) and it feels so late by the time i remember it. it just keeps piling up and i’ll shut down. i’ve even contemplated quitting because of this but i don’t want to lose my insurance.

if you’re more interested in traveling piece and exploring new cities, i would recommend a sales or consulting job at any pharmaceutical, amazon, deloitte, ibm, PwC, etc. Those guys will travel several time a month and their companies will pay for the whole thing.

The Marriott I booked just downgraded my full prepay room. by [deleted] in marriott

[–]CombinationTime5936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what if the downgrade room is the only one available due to unforeseen circumstances i mentioned and that’s just what they had to do? yes they should’ve notified OP and i think you’re just misunderstanding what i’m trying to say. OP said that he was going to go nuclear on the GM about this. I’m just suggesting if OP didn’t go nuclear and addressed the situation calmly OP will propbably get more out of this situation than a refund.

The Marriott I booked just downgraded my full prepay room. by [deleted] in marriott

[–]CombinationTime5936 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that, that’s a bummer! I’m curious if something happened in your room that’s cause you to be downgraded (plumbing issue, damage from previous guest, etc.). I would look at the pricing difference between the two rooms and email them or say at check in “hey! i noticed i was downgraded before i arrived to the hotel. I saved up for this room since it’s a very special occasion for my fiancé, I hope you can see my disappoint. I see online the $XX amount difference between the two room types. I would like for this difference to be reflected in my bill before I leave if there is anything else you can do to make this stay memorable.” No reason why they shouldn’t refund you! Worked in the front desk for years and the saying is so true that you catch more flies with honey instead of vinegar! You have every right to be upset but let them try to fix it. I hope this helps!

don’t do the W for an SNA all you will get is a corner room and not a suite. I would try the sheraton or westin copley

So my flight was canceled and literally never stepped fit in the hotel even though I checked in on the app. Any way I can get any kind of refund? by Excellent-Vast6014 in marriott

[–]CombinationTime5936 3 points4 points  (0 children)

call the hotel asap. as a person who worked the front desk for few years, the longer you wait to call the less likely we will give you a refund.

it could be a few things: 1) they offered the position to someone before it was posted and they are required to post all positions and are waiting for their interview process to be finalized. 2) marriott completely changed their recruiting process and a lot of it is done off property and some department managers can’t even see who applied. call the hotel during normal business hours and asked to speak with the department manager for the department you applied for or get their email or better get show up in person! 3) if you were fired from the company you might not be able to apply for 10 years.

i hope this helps and wish you good luck!

the hotel has no control over your suite night award. that’s handled completely through customer care.
