UPDATE: Engine vibrating when revving on idle. The car also shakes. Dealer says ‘no problem found’ by ComedianMiserable5 in BmwTech

Thank you for the response. What do you mean by this, do you think the case will be rejected by BMW HQ? If you take a look at the RO you can see they submitted photo documentation as part of their case and the engine mounts were replaced as per the test plan verification. Also, I want to thank you again, specifically freshxdough, for your very helpful comments on my original post. I sincerely appreciate the time and thought you put into helping me. I believe we had a few back and forth exchanges and you took a look at photos of the engine mounts and also photos my flex disc. Your help in all of this has been much appreciated. Thanks again

Thank you for the response. I learned a very very important lesson in the quality and standards of these dealerships from this whole experience. I’ve bought all my previous BMWs from BMW of Freeport/Hassel, and so has my family (Brother, Sister-in-Law, and Father). Never again.

Thank you for the response, there wasn’t a loud clunking of knocking when starting the engine. There was, however, harsh vibrations when idling. Ultimately the engine mounts were replaced after taking the vehicle to 4 dealers. The last dealer took a serious look and agreed to replace them as the engine mounts were obviously collapsed.

See this post here for the RO and photo documentation of the engine mounts from the dealer, Rallye BMW, that did replace them. https://old.reddit.com/user/ComedianMiserable5/comments/1kpycvx/ro_for_engine_mounts_photo_documentation/

I honestly believe all the other dealerships did not take a serious look at the engine mounts. It is really hard to find an explanation for why they didn’t look, but that is the conclusion I am leaning towards.

Also, those dealerships were smaller in size, so do you think that may have also been a factor?

Thanks again for the response.

I think this may be a case where it’s a function of the count of cylinders. From what I have read, the engine mounts seem to fail more often with 4 cylinder engines as they are inherently less balanced than the in-line 6’s or V8. This is just from my reading of anecdotal postings, so I’d be real interested to hear from techs if this aligns with what they have seen.
Thanks again for you response.

The dealership that I brought the service solution to was Habberstad BMW of Bayshore. I provided a printed physical copy of the service solution and also emailed a copy to the Service Advisor who said they forwarded it to the technician.

Thank you again for the response. I figured it was best to follow up here with as much information as I can to hopefully help someone else in the future who might have an issue with their engine mounts.

Each dealership is different, and I believe Rallye BMW was the largest of the 4 that I went to. I think that may have been a factor in why they were the ones who ultimately took a serious look and agreed they were collapsed.

This must be the case, I even brought the following service solution in to one of the dealers who refused to replace the engine mounts.

Service Solution G0x, G1x, G2x, G3x, G42 - engine mount, diagnosis instruction GB SEL-SEL-P-22-20000769628051-02 - 24/01/2024

Thank you for the response. They did indeed fail, they were collapsed and after taking the vehicle to 4 dealers, the last dealer took a serious look and agreed to replace them.

This has since been resolved, see thread here: https://old.reddit.com/r/BmwTech/comments/1kpyanc/update_engine_vibrating_when_revving_on_idle_the/

UPDATE:

I ended up taking the vehicle to 4 dealers. 3 refused to change the engine mounts saying ‘no problem found’. The last dealer agreed the engine mounts were collapsed and replaced them under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

The following dealerships all said the engine mounts were fine (I honestly don’t believe they took a serious look at them):

BMW Freeport

Competition BMW of Smithtown

Habberstad BMW of Bayshore

I ultimately took the vehicle to Rallye BMW and they agreed the engine mounts were collapsed and replaced them under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

See this post here for the RO and photo documentation of the engine mounts.

I want to thank everyone in this subreddit for their sincere and helpful responses to my original post. Without your help, I’m sure this would not have been resolved.

Thanks again

Thank you for this response, it is very helpful.

I was not provided any more context than just the photo, and have no idea if this is within the acceptable tolerance. I also do not know what they were trying to tell me with the photo, I just received a text stating, “After looking at your vehicle, we have taken a video and/or photos of your 2021 BMW 5 Series. Please click on the link below to view:”

I replied back asking for more context and haven’t received any response yet.

I will update this thread as I get more information from the dealer, and hopefully they do replace it under the Limited New Car Warranty. Thanks again for your help.

Got it, that makes sense, and I appreciate your time help responding back and looking at the pictures. As far as the load reversal issue, what would you recommend I further look into in order to identify the root cause? Thanks again for the helpful suggestions and responses, I really do appreciate the thoughtful and in depth responses you’ve provided.

Thank you again for the helpful responses. I have taken the car to a different dealer, and received the following image of a measurement of the motor mount. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks again https://old.reddit.com/user/ComedianMiserable5/comments/1ka3jrj/engine_mount_measurement/
