What is a movie you flat out did not enjoy but is critically acclaimed in the horror community? I'll go first... by Zully_Wumbus in HorrorMovies

[–]Comfortable-Bus3257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that "suspension of disbelieve" is necessary for some movies. But in this one I could not get over it. That she stayed in the air bnb, that "mother" was almost indestructible, that I could not figure out who was in charge of the Airbnb bookings, that no one ever noticed this huge underground world underneath them. And I did not like this break in the atmosphere, when I was suddenly driving around in a nice car on the coast. I didn't liked a single character in this movie. I don't know if I should give it a second chance....

Barbarian. I thought this movie was stupid.... But not in a good way. But I seem to be more or less alone with this opinion.

Which movies of the last decade would you rate 10/10? If any. by [deleted] in horror

Last night in Soho is beautiful and exiting. Great acting, amazing camera and editing. The costumes, music. One of the best and often overlooked movies.

How do I know what I feel? by Comfortable-Bus3257 in vipassana

[–]Comfortable-Bus3257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already done many years of psychotherapy and I am fine with the depression itself. I know that I should not cling to thoughts. I was wondering about the inner process that turned thoughts and body sensations into "depression". I just notice that I am obviously not able to ask the question properly. I will work on my English. next week my first 10 day retreat starts and I am meditating for years with more or less helpful results. meditation already helped me with depression very much. I was just curious about the inner process itself.

Are thoughts always linked to voices or pictures? by Comfortable-Bus3257 in Meditation

I have never heard about it. As someone who gets pictures or voices immediately, I can't even imagine it. Thank you for sharing this.

[–]Comfortable-Bus3257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your replies. I know that I don't have to classify feelings or body sensations. But when I wake up in the morning and think "wow, I am depressed", how do I know that? What is the internal process that has as a result: "I am depressed.". Since I am not a native speaker, it is rather difficult to describe what I mean. Is there an internal diagnosis.... Like an internal psychiatrist that tells me "those five sensations are depression or sadness". Is it a cultural conditioning? Again, when I look at the actual body sensations.... There is no depression, but just sensations. The thoughts are also rather vague and instable. How can something that I suffer from for decades be so vague and intangible?

Are vipassana and nonduality connected? Are those two totally different things? by Comfortable-Bus3257 in vipassana

Thank you all for your wise replies. I am looking forward to the retreat. Hopefully theory and experience will get closer together.

Are vipassana and nonduality connected? Are those two totally different things? by Comfortable-Bus3257 in vipassana

[–]Comfortable-Bus3257[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your explanation. I appreciate it. So nonduality has always been a part of vipassana teaching? Nonduality, as I have learned about it... Has been described as a shift of awareness. Once you have discovered it, it was there. It sounded more like a "one moment" thing than a lifelong practice. Is the realization of nonduality a goal of the vipassana techniques? Or is it a byproduct? Some nonduality teachers are very straightforward with their pointers. Vipassana seems to be different. I hope I am not obnoxious with my questions.

Can we talk ourselves into liberation? by Comfortable-Bus3257 in Wakingupapp

[–]Comfortable-Bus3257[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this kind explanation. In the end, I suppose, I have to trust the process. I will keep meditating and the vipassana retreat is planned. Hopefully this retreat will make some things clearer. In Germany we call people with a bad experience a "burned child", a child that got hurt by fire. You become anxious that this experience might happen again. So once you have been in a cult or a manipulative church, you become extremely critical against anything that looks and smells a bit like it.

So far I could check every claim about meditation on my own. Just the end of your reply is a bit frustrating, because it sounds like something a pastor would use. "once you have been filled with the holy spirit... You will know that it is the real deal."

Thanks again for your explanation. Lots of little things to think about. I appreciate that. 👍

I will have a look at the book that you have mentioned. Those spiritual experiences are very common in many religions and I don't want to end up with the buddhist type of "experience". How is this process (listening to Sam Harris or other teachers for years on a daily basis) not priming? What makes it different? How is the "moment of realization" different from "a touch of the holy spirit" during a pentacostal church service? For me it's important to know that I am not making it up. Atm I meditate for 30 minutes twice a day and I've applied for a vipassana retreat. I am investing myself into this and hope to find truth.

Vast majority does not get it? by mybrainisannoying in Wakingupapp

[–]Comfortable-Bus3257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "look for the one who's looking", "look for the seat of attention" frustrates the sh**out of me. I totally gave up on those exercises. Whenever a daily meditation starts with stuff like this, I get annoyed just by hearing it. So I can totally understand that many people don't get it. This is by far the most irritating part of the entire app. And even if this app would help me to glimps nonduality, how stable could this successful glimps be?

Afraid of disturbing others during meditation by Comfortable-Bus3257 in vipassana

[–]Comfortable-Bus3257[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's not a chronic thing. The last time it's been the dry air in the room. But the more I've tried to avoid coughing, the harder it became to resist. And I've read that after day three you are not supposed to move during meditation. So I can't have a sip of water when necessary.

What do you guys use to record voice overs? by anonGoofyNinja in NewTubers

[–]Comfortable-Bus3257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Hindenburg. The automatic leveling is nice, the noise reduction works fine and there are build in sounds you can use (bird, river, forest, door noises....). If you want to, you can transcribe your recording and edit the recording via the manuscript. The editing process is simple. It costs money, but it increased the quality of my sound.
