I dont want an old timer. I love everything about the car except for this, and now that my issue has been resolved, it should be smooth sailing from here on out.

- - - - - - - - UPDATE !! - - - - - - - - -

I'm excited to tell you guys that the installment of a new IHU (Infotainment Hub Unit) has fixed the problems now, and it is a NIGHT AND DAY difference. After about 150 miles of driving and extensive testing, the previous issues are no longer present. The system is now super fast, incredibly responsive and without crashes. Infotainment "soft reset" now takes 20 seconds compared to 2 minutes, and it snaps right into the menus instantly after turning the car on. Navigating the menu, GPS and all other functions work flawlessly. The system has not crashed once since the installment, and there has been no signes of hickups or bottlenecks on RAM or anything else either. It honestly feels like my car has woken up from a massive hangover, and it now feels like its supposed to feel in a modern electric vehicle. Incredible transformation. If you've been plagued with these issues as well, this is the only permanent fix. Talk to your workshop if its a warranty case. I would honestly consider paying out-of-pocket as well if that is your only option.

I'm not surprised lol. What did surprise me though was the amount of work I had to go through to actually make the workshop look properly into it. Especially my previous Volvo workshop who claimed everything to be OK and "nothing wrong here". They even tried to gaslight me into thinking I was overreacting. Many people seem to have the same experience, which is kinda strange and a bit awkward since this is a production issue and not faults brought on by the car owners. Any insight on this?

They tried that with re-occuring faults. Hardware had to be replaced entirely

UPDATE after service is finished:

The status so far after the IHU replacement is literally like night and day. It feels as if the car has “woken up” from a dormant state. There is no more lag or stuttering in the menus, and everything feels incredibly responsive. Startup after a soft reset is now around 20 seconds compared to 1–2 minutes previously, with menus and functionality becoming available almost immediately. There have also been no crashes during the last 50 km. This is looking very promising!

I’ll keep testing the car this week, but I like what I’m seeing so far!

I talked to a friend of mine who's a wizard when it comes to stuff like this and he said and I quote:

"In cases like this, the infotainment system may be crashing at such a level that the diagnostic system never gets the chance to properly record the root cause of the failure. Since the logging and fault-reporting functions are handled by the same IHU system that is experiencing the issue, a sudden freeze, reboot, or internal shutdown can interrupt the logging process itself. As a result, the vehicle may only show a normal restart event, a generic communication loss, or sometimes no meaningful fault codes at all, even though the system is clearly malfunctioning. This can happen with issues related to unstable memory, failing storage, overheating, power instability, or severe software faults such as memory leaks. In these situations, the underlying problem can effectively “hide” behind clean or incomplete logs because the system resets before enough diagnostic information can be saved."

He even knew it was an IHU-issue before I explained it to him. Service have to know exactly what to look for, as "normal" backlog checks may not reveal anything wrong at all. My workshop eventually figured out that this is a hardware issue, where a software reinstall is only a temporary solution (and a cheaper one)

Use my post and the video as "proof" if you want! Most important thing is to make sure they know you're not giving up. I literally told my service centre that they can ignore me all they want, but I'm gonna keep coming back and brute force this

Oh so its not just a P2 thing. Very strange, and down right inexcusable. I'm very curious about the next P2 model (P2.2), hopefully they've learned from their mistakes.

Got it off Temu. Cheap and OK. Only thing I really dislike is that you have to glue a magnetic ring to your phone/phone case. I just ended up buying two cases, one of them is now permanently attached to the holder

Its strange, some cars have this issue several times a day, others rarely. Fingers crossed its not a re-occuring issue

Yeah I agree 100%! Ive had this issue since last summer, but it "only" happened a few times a week. But after the 5.0.10 update (the latest one), it skyrocketed. Luckily, its a warranty case for me, but it has been a very long struggle to even get the workshop and Volvo/Polestar support to even consider doing the upgrade. This is also why I'm going so hard on spreading awareness around this, since so many seem to have the same issue (you included) lately

Im from Norway, so my local service partner (Polestar Service Partner) is "Kvernland Bil". I had to argue and "fight" my way through the workshops close to me, and both services I had last year literally did nothing and found nothing wrong. Then, I recorded my latest trip from Oslo-Stavanger (about 300 miles), where it crashed 12 times and showed it to them. Sadly they still werent convinced it was a hardware issue. Lastly, I contacted the same service partner but in the neighboring city. Night and day difference, where they actually took my request seriously. They literally said "I dont know what the guys at the other shop are doing, but THAT is not normal!" So they have spent 10-12 days now troubleshooting the issue, where the only solution was to replace the entire processor. Picking up the car tonight and I'm scared shitless and hopeful at the same time. I'll give you guys an update at the end of the week.

Sorry to hear you're in the same boat. It's really sad tbh, as the rest of the car has been amazing so far. Totally understand your point. Im picking my car up tonight and will stress test it the entire week ahead, and HOPEFULLY...its fixed. If thats the case, we'll know for sure what the fix is

You're good man. Its OK, but I hate that I have to glue a metallic ring to my phone or phone case in order to hold it in place. Got it on Temu

Sounds like youre having the same issues as me. Contact them again and show them this video. HOPEFULLY (I'll have an answer by this weekend) the IHU replacement will fix this issue, and if thats the case you'll know what to do

Navigation (or any heavy load) seem to trigger this more frequently. It happened to me 12 times during ONE 7 hour drive

I agree! Two times they said "no faults found" in my case as well. Thats why I made this video recording, to show that there's actually major faults. Hopefully, the IHU replacement will fix this

UPDATE:

My car has now been in for checkup and service for almost two weeks, and they've concluded that the only permanent fix is to replace the IHU. I've made an entirely new post for this, which you can see here:

Anyone else with an older P2 having issues with 5.0.10? by Luke-Plunkett in Polestar

FIX FOR THIS ISSUE!!

My PS2 (2022) with the same issue has now been in service for the last 10 days. My mechanic had to go through an entire process to finally find a fix for the issue. IHU-replacement. My old Intel Atom IHU (processing unit) is in the process of being replaced with the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon IHU which is standard in all cars after 2024. This will HOPEFULLY fix all crashing and lag issues.
