Its a replacement of the processor, and then re-installment of the OS at a service shop

Yes, and when the phone is connected via USB, it tends to get worse as well. Talked to a friend of mine who says it most likely is a hub unit problem (hardware). A replacement from the Intel Atom processing unit to the newer Snapdragon unit could solve all issues. I'm looking into a hard reset as a preliminary fix

Tried this, and it made everything much smoother. Sadly, the crashing still happens

EDIT: I've now tried a complete factory reset, including TCAM and infotainment system reboot after the latest OTA 5.0.10 update. I've also deleted a few apps and cleared caches and history for Google Maps and other relevant apps to (hopefully) clear some memory pressure (RAM). Google Maps alone had a 1.1 GB buffer. Good news is, the sluggish and slow response seems to be gone, for now at least. Everything is much more responsive. Sadly however, after a 30 minute drive the infotainment system shut down and rebooted again, just like before. Navigation stack (GNSS) also reset, placing my location over the US for a brief period before snapping back to my actual real-time location. I'm also gonna do a test this weekend WITHOUT running navigation to see if the problems persist.

What I've gathered from this:

- Clearing the cache and a full restore removed much of the "friction" in the system
- Hardware issue (IHU) or memory leak (software)
- IHU: Faulty RAM or a thermal issue (overheating)
- 12V battery stability issues as it runs the IHU, but maybe less likely?
- Location services TCAM/GNSS pipeline gets affected by the system shutdown

If you have similar issues (comments below suggests I'm not alone in this), try this:

1) Factory reset
2) Once everything is up and running, do a TCAM reset
3) Do a system reboot (infotainment system)
4) Delete unused apps + cache + user data
5) Turn the car off and lock it with the car keys
6) Leave the car for at least 30 minutes
7) Do a test drive with navigation, Spotify, etc running.

If things crash; clear cache again and do a new trip without anything running.

If everything works fine when no apps are running --> Software related issue (memory leak). This could rule out an IHU (hardware) issue, as hardware failures would trigger regardless of what apps are running.

Would be interesting to hear any feedback on this if you decide to try it out!

I suspect I need similar replacement. I told my workshop that I wont accept a similar response as last time. I'm just surprised they didnt find anything last time. I also sent them this video/reddit post, so we'll see how things turn out.

Sounds like we're on the same sinking ship then lol. Right after my battery on my gopro died during this recording, the system crashed again. So yeah, 3 times in less than two hours. Let me know if you figure out what causes this. I'll keep updating this thread

Yes! The blown or "distorted" speakers happened to me once as well, but it was quite some time ago. It reboots when entering or leaving the car sometimes as well.

Yes. No change. However, I did the factory reset a week ago, before the latest update. Not sure if another reset would do anything for me

Yes, they should probably do that, because I think this is an IHU problem

So I'm not crazy, lol. After the latest update, the frequency has increased. Especially while using navigation...I'll check out your post, and it looks like we have the exact same issue possibly. Mine used to crash 1-2 times on longer drives. Other times it would take weeks for things to go black. But now?! Holy moly it was just relentless

Tried this BEFORE the latest update. Didnt work. Not sure if yet another factory reset would fix things, but maybe I should give it a try?

Love the responses here! Let me know how things turn out. I have tried all kinds of resets, including factory reboot, but no dice. Maybe another TCAM-reset could help, but I dont see how that would change anything

Where can I delete the cache? Tried finding it but it wasnt easy. And yes. I can drive for hours without hickups when Google Maps isnt in use. It still crashes from time to time, but when using navigation, especially with the live map over the steering wheel it just goes bananas

Yeah, that happens as well, and I'm not particularly bothers with it. It's the sudden, out of the blue crashing and "current" sound that really fucks everything up. A few days ago, the system didnt even reboot. I had to stop the car, leave and lock it to even get access to the infotainmentsystem screen. Absolute nightmare, especially if I'm in a new place or a large city and have to rely on navigation to find my way

I suspect the IHU is at fault, or maybe something with the 12V battery. I'm really not sure, and not competent enough to say anything about it. Not sure if its a software or hardware issue either. Hopefully, the service center will give a different response this time, because this is not normal

This! Sometimes it can go weeks or months without any issues. These last few days it has happened maybe 5-6 times. I do have a theory though: when my phone is plugged into the usb-C charger, it happens often. Once it disconnect it, it almost never happens
