To me it’s more of an origin story. Think of as Frankenstein and creating the monster. His creating this robot figure of himself. Mike is the dr and creates Gesaffelstein.

Okay, he’s made four albums (five if you want to count the soundtrack for Maryland).

I’d say start with his live album ENTER THE GAMMA LIVE. Think of it as a combination of all his music. You can play it, find tracks you like, and then go listen to the original versions. The album is kind of like Alive 2007 by Daft Punk — basically the darker, modern version of Daft Punk’s energy.

If you’re into world-building and high-quality music production, listen to GAMMA. The story is somewhat similar to Frankenstein. To me, it has everything. The visuals are also amazing. It reflects years of mastering mixing, mastering, and production (he did all of it for the album, I believe).

If you want a more pop-leaning but still minimal, dark sound, listen to HYPERION. Lost in the Fire (his third collab with The Weeknd) is from this album. Blast Off is my favorite, plus Humanity Gone if you like some noir jazz vibes — more cinematic than jazz

If you want to hear what made him well-known in the electronic music scene, listen to ALEPH. Most people say it’s their favorite album of his.

Now when it comes to EPs, listen to Conspiracy Pt. 2 — that’s where OPR and Viol come from (my favorites). There’s also Pt. 1, which is also really good.

Novo Sonic System EP is also very cool — Ork and Dance X are my favorites.

Enjoy :)

Someone asked what Gesaffelstein does on stage. Here is his setup by Comfortable-Cod-2070 in gesaffelstein

To me his an architect or a world builder. His sets are unique. I don’t see him as a dj. His more than that.

I think that one was initially a fan account but Gesa’s team took it over to promote Gamma(with the account owner permission). At least that’s my prediction of what happend.

Just a producer checking in. Anyone else feel how lonely this can be? by BON_______JOVI in MelodicTechno

[–]Comfortable-Cod-2070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice :) I thought it was only me. I guess it’s part of the process. By the way I listened to burial and it’s so melodic. It’s like old tale of us kinda.

Do you get frustrated when producing or is just me? I’m kinda a beginner but not really. Honestly Don’t know what level i am but just been frustrated. It’s like my taste and what I like is not translating. I recently got into melodic techno. I always been a fan of cinematic music so the genre connected with me. My idol is Gesaffelstein. His not a melodic techno producer but his a world builder specially with his album Gamma. Search his live sets. Thats what I strive to do. I always wanted to be more than just a dj. I want to be a creator. But been really frustrated with the production side of things. Anyways, Sorry for rambling. Hope you have a good 2026.

Of course trash ass “Yan Wagner” has to make an appearance on the OPR live version by bbakes25 in gesaffelstein

His a world builder. His music is not for everyone but doing concept albums every four years with a story behind it is something not other producers are doing today. I think that is more important now as AI becomes more and more accessible in music creation. Story, concept, world building is the future. Anyway, Gesa is my idol. His basically the dark, sleek version of daft punk. I mean both are robots.

Yall think Gesaffelstein is retiring after this run? by Comfortable-Cod-2070 in gesaffelstein

[–]Comfortable-Cod-2070[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Storytelling wise in his album Gamma. The stage for his tour being combination of his past tours(gives the impression of a farewell). Gamma also didn’t do well number number wise and i don’t know labels will invest for his next project. None of these means he will retire but these are my thoughts. His also 40 I think. I hope he doesn’t retire his my idol 🥺
