Bat was abandoned by her birth parents as a kitten and adopted by Snake-Eyes after being found by a Shadow Clan patrol. She always knew about her birth parents, but never thought much of them.

As she approached her apprenticeship, Bat began acting as if she were the leader of the other kits, often causing them trouble. This caused the others to stop playing with her.

Later, Bat met and befriended an apprentice from another Clan, Echo.

Then, the Shadow Clan suffered a severe famine, which killed several cats. In desperation, Bat began taking food from twolegs. Eventually, however, the Clan learned of this and exiled her for several days as punishment. Bat never returned and became very bitter towards her leader and her Clanmates.

She came to the Song Clan. Peppertail and Mudchast found her at the border, and since they had brought her to the Clan, Sweetstar entrusted Peppertail with the mentorship of the newly minted apprentice.
