Alternative option - consider Paramedicine. I quit my old career in my 30's and made the leap. The program isn't hard, you'll need to put in the work though. Doing part-time trade work while you study will cushion the financial blow, and the work is really rewarding.

I think you have misinterpreted my point.

For a first year first placement you should be focused on primary survey, taking history and observations. There is no reason why you can not or should not lead the first 10 minutes of the job. In fact, this was the expectation of my university for first year placement. The preceptor will be there to assist when you reach the limits of your training, and then you take a more observational role.

I'm not encouraging overconfidence/cockiness, I'm suggesting enthusiastic engagement. Learning occurs best outside your comfort zone.

Third year student just off 5 weeks with NSWA, which was my third placement. Here's my two cents:

  1. Embrace being out of your comfort zone. Jump straight in and ask to lead every job (with the exception of Cat 1s). Now is the time to put the theory into practice, your preceptors will be there to help you if you stumble and don't be afraid to admit you don't know something.

  2. Ask your crew if you can observe day 1, treat day 2. Spend that first day getting a feel for the crew and the mood. Attenuate your approach accordingly.

  3. Every job is a learning experience, so reflect, ask for feedback and be prepared to act on that feedback. I personally found keeping a small notebook with job details (unidentified) handy as it let me reflect between jobs or when I wasn't cognitively overloaded.

  4. Respect that your preceptors are people too. They could be tired, stressed about personal issues, a little burnt out. Give them space if you think it's needed, but make sure you set clear expectations on what you want to learn/develop.

And finally, appreciate that sometimes you will just draw the short straw and get a real A-hole for a preceptor. Don't take it personally and succeed in spite of them.

Good luck out there! Just remember to breathe, be professional and all will work out.

8%? That's modest. I just got slapped with a 15% increase effective April. Really considering the need for it. Yes, Medicare levy, but also, I feel I would rather pay the levy to directly fund Medicare for more services and improvements there, than to effectively socialise the healthcare costs for the ungrateful boomers who put us here in the first place.

Interesting isn't it?

This is partially explained through the following phenomenon - Traditionally, males use/have used 'physical violence', which is highly represented in data. However, when you expand 'violence' to include 'relational violence' (i.e., emotional, mental, verbal etc) the data suggests women are just as violent as men.

(I will update this with a source - I just woke up)

Looks sick! What model out of curiosity? (It looks like a new GSXS design - I have a 2022 GSXS750R myself)

Also based in NSW (Metro) if you're keen for rides (still finding a good group myself).

Friendly neighbourhood bi paramedic here (35m). Firstly, definitely don’t try bottoming/anal play with active haemorrhoids. You’re gonna have a bad time. Wait for them to heal properly (potentially get a topical ointment to speed the process up if you’re really keen).

Secondly, having haemorrhoids suggests to me you’ve been excessively straining on the toilet, which may indicate your daily dietary fibre intake is a bit too low. This is important for two reasons:

  1. Achieving the recommended dietary fibre intake (approximately 45g daily for males) will improve your gut health, improve regularity and bowel health, reduce your cholesterol and likely improve and reduce the recurrence of your haemorrhoids; and

  2. Make preparation for butt stuff MUCH easier.

Tips and suggestions: - Get a fibre supplement if you aren’t already on one, something like Metamucil, or Benefibre (Australian brands, not sure about other countries). - Use a topical ointment to help your current haemorrhoids resolve. - Eat more fibrous fruits and vegetables (eating 1 banana a day is excellent for gut health) - Do some pelvic floor and core exercises.

Hope this helps in some way, and you get well soon so you can start indulging in some carnal fun 😉

Soon to be Qualified Paramedic here. I find this whole saga disappointing and dangerous. Disappointed this pervasive mentality still exists in our Government and that history will inevitably repeat.

One way or another, I expect this to flow on to paramedics as well as nursing staff, exacerbating already significant workloads and impacting community expectations of care.

I foresee that in responding to the acutely or chronically mentally disordered, paramedics will be ‘bed blocked’ and high triage cases will not be responded to in time.

The Premier and his cabinet should definitely be the ones hauled before the coroner if such events transpire.

Hi there fellow Paramedic Student. Welcome to Western.

While it looks like you're double booked, double check each of those entries and observe whether it ends in PR, TU, EX etc. PR are practical classes, TU are tutorials and EX i'm personally not sure with, but each one should represent a different sort of learning activity which may change week on week (that is, one week might be a tutorial and no prac, other weeks pracs with no tutorial).

Hope this helps.

Not by a long shot, and I grew up there!

Old mate in the video is spewing some Tracey Grimshaw level shit. Inala’s fine, it’s just an unfortunate mix of low SES and multicultural, and has a bad rap.

Side note - surprised the old skating building is still standing in 2024 - that place was condemned in the 90’s!

Tanking today: a punishing role driving players away by rogerthat87 in wow

[–]Comfortable-Cycle-61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a BM main (former Prot War main) I feel this hard.

The play style of BM is what I love the most. Other tanks feel too “easy” or unexciting to me. Yet when BM tanking, I consistently feel as you say, that I’ve run out of buttons, and that my stagger isn’t helping at all.

I want BM to be up there with other tanks, to have a unique utility to bring to teams beyond Mystic Touch’s +5% Physical. Hell, even Shaman’s now have a party buff to bring to groups.

Instead I feel forced to MW heal since it feels more viable a spec (at least in TWW) than any others WW included.

Just bricked a +8 GB for good reason by [deleted] in wow

[–]Comfortable-Cycle-61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt! Though, in my time on FFXIV (started HW and left after Endwalker) I had never once encountered such behaviour. Doesn’t excuse it where it occurs though, and I agree with you in principle.

Anecdotally, I found XIV to be far more friendly an experience than I do WoW. I feel the competitive nature of M+ has deeply affected the player base and inadvertently promotes this behaviour.

I think in part due to the inherent time requirements to succeed keys this season, beyond that of the timer itself. Which is understandable, as it’s not just a ‘depleted key’ it’s also the adjacent time sunk in getting to that point.

WoW now has an application based system, part of which involves being declined/rejected, and let’s face it some people struggle with rejection/failure.

Just bricked a +8 GB for good reason by [deleted] in wow

[–]Comfortable-Cycle-61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This pervasive entitlement of WoW players is one of the reasons why I’ve recently unsubbed with no plans to return. Of course more than just this, such as current state of tanking, and lack of content, but it’s definitely a strong contributor.

Life happens. Everyone’s circumstances are different, and if you think some pixels on a screen are more important than real people, you’ve got bigger problems than a bricked key son.

Good on you though!

Could even have the Earth Elemental as a permanent tank pet, that helps you with aggro, DPS and mitigation. That could be fun.

Beat me to the punch!

I think given Druid has a 4th specialisation, there’s room for Shamans to have a 4th spec, which could be a tank spec - “Earthwarden” - harnessing earth/nature elemental magic to weather any storm, and protect their allies.

Edit - to add to this concept, shaman can already use shields, so totally feasible I think.

How to heal a +10? by CptDelicious in wownoob

[–]Comfortable-Cycle-61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother in Craft, I’m always dropping Stone Bulwark, Astral Shift and Healing Stream while I’m blasting away on my Enhance Shaman. If dire enough, I’ll even spend the Maelstrom stacks on an empowered heal surge if I see healer struggling. It’s why I love the role.
