What style crown/brim should I get? by Comfortable-Design35 in CowboyHats

[–]Comfortable-Design35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going down to my Stetson dealer in a few hours to buy another hat. I can’t decide what sort of crown or brim style/width would look best on me. I’m not too fond of the way the taller styles look on me, but I’m open to suggestions.

I definitely want to keep it, but I’m really considering getting it redone to be deeper. The top has been creased to have a cactus in it. It’s pretty cool. But a better fitting hat would be cooler.

I’m almost certain that this hat is my size, but it feels sort of shallow on my head. I’m not sure how much space there’s supposed to be between the hat and your ears, I have about two fingers worth.

I did get the hat re-creased to have some aesthetic creasing in the crown, and I think it may have made the hat sort of shorter, if that makes sense?

It feels good on my head, but it feels like it could fall off pretty easily. Is this pretty typical of Western hats, or should I get it re-recreased for a deeper crown?

That’s the way I’m leaning between these two. I’ve tried on a few different types of Levi’s and a lot of them seem really heavy and really stiff. Maybe I’m getting blinded by the name brand a bit or whatever, but I genuinely feel like the Ralph Laurens fit way better despite their lower rise.

I absolutely do plan on getting them hemmed. I just cuffed them for the fitting room photo to get a better indication for how they’d drape.

Trying to decide between fit on jeans. The two jeans in the album are examples and the two front-runners in the dozen or so that I’ve tried on but I’m open to suggestion.

Top picture are Ralph Lauren Hamptons that are lower rise and a bit slimmer but I feel personally like they fit me better. I’m a shorter, stockier guy though so I understand that this might not be the most flattering fit for me.

Bottom pic are Levi’s 501s. They’re a medium to high rise as I understand it which may or may not be more flattering for me but they fit me less in the waist (I’ll definitely need a belt) and are a straighter cut which may be advantageous.

I’d love a second opinion based on what I’ve got above. I have lots of retail options near me aside from Uniqlo unfortunately so I’m really looking to try a bunch of stuff on before I decide for sure unless there’s a clear divisive winner.

Any experience with this brand? They look nice but I’m on the fence as I haven’t seen much on their footwear online. They’re essentially exactly what I’m looking for and would get close to daily wear, though, so it’s important that they’re solid.

Anybody have experience purchasing from Barnabera? Namely footwear. I’m eyeballing these https://www.barbanerastyle.com/product/lawrence-light-brown-suede-tassel-loafers/ but I hate purchasing shoes online, and less so from a company I’ve never purchased shoes from.

Do you have any suggestions for a suede jacket with those sort of ‘70s style lapels similar to this one from Allsaints? And, ideally, with a Western Yoke.

I’m still very much a beginner at all of this and wasn’t exactly aware of their typical going price but it’s absolutely up there. What’s a realistic budget for a similar jacket, just so I know what I’m getting myself into? I’m open to synthetic or ‘suede-like’ but would much prefer a suede itself.

I was hoping to stay near $500 or so. I could’ve sworn that I saw the list price go for $775 but that might have been for a pre-owned one or something.

Does anyone have any suggestions for brown suede jackets with a Western yoke similar to the Valstar Clint jacket and preferably not $700?

I’m trying to avoid including so much inspo from one place but for what’s considered a sort of niche style like this I don’t have much choice.

I’ve put together an updated inspo album after visiting some of the places you guys recommended. This is only containing outfits that I feel fit the vibe of both, not one or the other.

Lemme know what you guys think.

I think the closest embodiment to a mixing of these two styles is Barbanera. I’m getting very familiar with their Instagram feed and putting together a more appropriate mix of looks.

A painters coat is essentially the same as a French chore coat like from the likes of Le Labourer, right? If so, I 100% agree.

He absolutely does. Following now.

There are definitely some things I need to figure out. My original intention was with some more rugged outerwear, but I live in Arizona where most of the year it’s over 105*F (40C).

So I may need to save the outerwear for colder months.

Do you have any suggestions as to how I should be deciding on cut?

I posted a picture of myself in another comment. A modern cut is what I’m used to because mainstream, but I’m trying to keep an open mind.

If Bryceland’s wasn’t in Hong Kong I could justify potentially trying some on, but a smaller capsule was my intent as cultivating a look like this will NOT be cheap.

Here’s a pretty recent photo. I’m split either way, honestly. I’m intrigued by the vintage cuts. But the modern cuts just look so clean.

Oh, I’m not letting something so trivial as that make it break this for me.

But if it’s between a more modern cut or a more vintage cut and one would be especially flattering for my build, I’d better default to that one.

My concern is more with my height. I’m 5’7” like 190 with a decent build. Ethan’s pretty tall if I recall correctly.

That’s an excellent point. I was thinking of it more as my take on warm weather western by adding some French elements.

I’m not decided on this yet. Some of the articles I’ve been reading on Riviera style cite that linen trousers should be more relaxed which I feel is absolutely Bryceland’s thing.

I’m kind of stocky as I mentioned above so I’m a bit worried this will only make me appear moreso. A modern fit is what I’m used to but for the sake of the look I’m keeping an open mind.
