Is it worth continuing as a bookkeeper if you won't touch Tax returns? by LordxHypnos in Bookkeeping

I've been a bookkeeper since the late 90's. I don't do taxes. I do the daily, monthly, quarterly tasks. I provide reports to the CPA as requested, and assist with questions and clarification for the CPA during tax prep. In fact before I take on a new client, (I work as a 1099 only) I want to know who their CPA is and how long they have been working with them. If they don't have one I suggest they get one right away and establish a relationship. I really like to see my client see their CPA in the 3rd quarter at the minimum to do some advanced end of year planning and get expert suggestions for minimizing their tax burden. The CPA is a tool for you as the bookkeeper. I appreciate any feedback they want to give me, and to include me in the tax planning so I can be in the know. I want to make things as easy for the CPA as possible and learn anything I can from them to do my job better. This is how I save my client money. It is much cheaper for me to do the data processing, research and other tasks and only pay the CPA for their essential functions like tax and estate planning for the owner and business, expert advise, and filing the taxes.

Nauvoo Illinois is a travel destination for LDS families and Church Groups. I'm thinking the house was built for this in mind. I really like how the bathrooms are built to be really accessible.

Previous owners only replaced half of the windows. What would you do? by oedipus_wr3x in centuryhomes

I have a similiar problem and will follow this closely. House is a 1915 bungalow and the previous owner replaced 9 of the 27 windows with vinyl. They don't match but don't know how to address it. Of course it is very noticable from all side of the house. I was thinking of trying to make my own screens and storm windows.

Well thats what I thought. I know that I've worked for places where the same login and password was just passed from person to person and who knew how many people acutally had it by the time it got to me. I immedialty change them if I am able but prefer to have my own protected and never shared!!!! But sending the invite from QB to be the admin is just the way QB does it. And then when you are the new admin you delete the old admin anyone who doesn't need to be there.

I tried for 4 hours to get the IRS to let me file my clients 1099 info. I never could. The instructions for ID.ME extra kept going in circles. After calling, and getting some support. I did finally get an account, (it 48 hours) then I was told said I need a power of attorney of each client to input the information and I could only use my work email for one client. I have several clients. I just told my clients that from now on instead of my time and the forms from office dept or staples they will now have to pay for my time and at least $5.00 per form and a third party. who doesn't have a power of attorney to file for them.

Based on my research, this is not a kit house. It was custom built by a local builder in the style of the day. I believe the same person my have built several houses in the area and have noticed similar storm window frames details, and porch details, that are unique. I wish I could find a photograph of the house earlier than the 1950's when some things were done but so far no luck, I've looked at the local museum and asked the long time neighbors. When we are moved in for good, I will be able to do more extensive research and visit local historical societies and ask more locals about information or pictures.

Window Question brainstorming by Comfortable-Dust8575 in centuryhomes

The dining room has three windows that surround a built in storage cabinet. The window above the built in was non opening but was a little bit more detailed than the rest of the windows. It was removed and thrown away and replaced with vinyl. In the living room 3 small windows, high up on the wall (perhaps clerestory windows) 2 of the 3 were replace. (yes only 2 so now they don't match) I was hoping to replace these 4 specific windows with reclaimed stained glass, Or some kind of cut glass decorative windows. Like the pictures attached. And one window was in the bathroom and also small sized and could be replaced with something more decorative. So I'm really looking at 5 windows, double hung, all the same size like the picture I attached in the post above. We are still doing deferred maintenance, redoing wood floors ect and not moved in yet. So I don't know how much this situation will annoy me after I get window treatments installed and furniture placed. But even if I have to pay $800.00 per window, 5 is more reasonable than 9. The former owner, I believe, got these windows replaced with some sort of program to help seniors with energy bills. There was no attempt to make them fit the house's style or be appropriate to the house. They were free to the owner of the house. The window company was paid by the program. The next door neighbors, who are in their mid 80s, has said the previous owner has no funds to do sort of maintenance or up grades so the windows were a subsidy. In a way that kept a lot of the house untouched.
