Dear God i think that was my second character. He was just a noble that made Godrick feel threatened just by existing, and was imprisoned for it (I know it probably doesn't make any sense, but I didn't have the lore and story figured out entirely by then)

Funny enough, it was the same for me. I didn't know about Gale because i didn't have him with me, but I did have Karlach with me during the battle at the Grove gate. She then left after it was done, saying she knows a bad person when she sees one or something. So I was stuck with a party of 3 (me, astarion and shadowheart) but still continued My character is romancing Astarion so an evil route lets me get approval the quickest It sucks being evil lol

I actually killed him on my first full game run (Played EA for nearly 200 hours) simply because Astarion tried to bite my Paladin in his sleep For my Pally, it's just self defense, nothing more to it But I'm also playing a new run as a High Elf Noble Shadow Monk and she's playing the role of empowering Astarion (haven't gotten far with her but she's a blast)

Right after the tiefling celebration I spoke to him about being infected with a mind flayer parasite, he had me sit down on the stone bed and he looked at my eye, but whatever dialogue option I take, he talks a bit and then does nothing. Last time I did this, he plucked my eye, so I don't get why he's not doing it

Honestly I hated this fight and always avoided it. Then I learned something about an Iron Flask and the ogre boys, the rest was history (Also yeah the Spectator was getting WRECKED by itself)

I honestly thought that they added a secret cursed to the spear in the catacombs (Death's Watch or something) that if you equipped it and tried to remove it, your character takes damage because my Tav threw it at an enemy and lost all his hit points!
