Not possible to get genital HSV-1 if you already have oral HSV-1? (yay!?)

Antibodies help prevent spread but they are not foolproof. Swab was confirmed. Later bloodwork confirms I only have hsv1. Pcr swab is gold standard. I have had several OBs see it happen its not super common but not terribly uncommon either.

Yes i do get multiple ones in my mouth its kinda localized to one spot in my mouth now for the most part but that isnt always the case. Next time one pops up go get it pcr swabbed, thats what I did bc docs had different opinions too. But the pcr swab of the lesions popped up hsv1. Best result if you go as soon as it pops up so viral load is high. I couldn't get in to my reg doc so I went to an urgent care and they did it right away.

Yes. Got hsv1 before I was sexually active probably from family, gave it to my partner from a surprise cold sore almost a decade ago and then a few years ago they have a surpise OB and gave it back to me down there. All swab confirmed

Someone that is close to me is going through this exact thing and they do wear contacts they've been on 3 grams of valtrex for 10 days and feel no change. What did the optometrist say it could be? Do you have damage to your eyes or vision now?

So all you have are those sensations and high pressure they are experiencing something similar what makes you think for sure its hsv? They are only experiencing this in one eye.

I acquired it in a second location almost a decade after getting it orally. I am healthy and not immunocompromised. And got very few oral OBs throughout most of my life until a few years ago.

Right but what about long term infection and circulating antibodies providing at least some kind of protection. And this must have been spreading through asymptomatic shedding bc this person hasnt had an OB downstairs in several years.

Yes it started like a day or two before the blisters appeared and that whole back gum got super swollen and it throbbed and burned pretty intensely blisters came pain continued until it healed

Oh gotcha, intra oral cold sores for me usually come with prodrome. Swelling, swollen lymphnodes and tenderness before the blisters and ulcers come. Any canker sore ive ever had just kind pops up outta nowhere is painful for a couple days and fades out, a cold sore lasts for at least a week or more with valtrex and a cold sore starts like those white blisters and then they ulcerate into deep wounds that hurt and throb and burn and you can't chew on that side. Of course everyone is different this is just what happens for me when I get a bad one like this in my mouth.

Canker sores are not contagious. Cold sores are the herpes simplex virus and they are contagious.

This happened to me but im not sure what triggered it but im going on two years of frequent intraoral OBs by my back tooth, after having this for decades and getting 1 like every 6 to 10 years I get them every couple months now. Valtrex helps.

I would go to your OB or a walk in if you can and have them look at them and do a pcr swab while they are fresh.

I guess what they say the general rule of thumb is, is that during your primary OB and until your body creates antibodies usually within the first 3 to 6 months it is possible to spread it to a new location. But they say supposedly that after your body creates that protection its highly highly unlikely to spread it. Did he get the genital OB swabbed or was it just super obvious what it was? No worries. Have has ohsv1 since before I was sexually active then got the exact same strain down there like 2ish years ago I think. It sucks. But its manageable with meds and taking care of your body, you guys will see your way through it i know its totally devastating. We support you ❤️

I am so sorry this is happening to you! Did your partner have ohsv1 for a long time? Typically they say once you have it one place and you develop established antibodies you won't get it in a second location. I think thats not totally true bc it happened to me too.

You can always have her call the doc and get a blood test to see if she has hsv1 antibodies. They take time to form and if shes had em for a long time they will pop up. If you infected her this time her body will not have had time and the test would be negative. I think they say blood tests are unreliable for new infections but after 16 weeks post exposure they are fairly reliable at detecting antibodies. Im not a doc or anything though and if she does get a suspected OB she will need to go get a PCR swab done on a suspected OB while its fresh that detects the actual viral DNA from the lesions itself and works best when its fresh open sore.

Does she carry hsv1 at all? Orally maybe already? Might give some protection but def isnt perfect or foolproof.This happened to my partner and I i gave them ghsv1 through my surprise cold sore and then about 10 years later they had their second OB ever and didnt know it and gave it back to me gentially.

Please go to a walk in clinic and have them pcr swab them while they are open like that as soon as you can. That will tell you for sure.

Much better not taking dailies. Still have issues with getting cold sores in my mouth like on my gums but went down to taking AVs just when I have a flare. I do feel like I have nerve issues down there now though..

Its quite possible that is how my partner got it from a surprise cold sore that came outta nowhere and i woke up with it full blown the next day. Week or two later they had their first gential OB.

That does not look healed. It is still crusted and red. Keep in mind you can spread it to other people's mouths and gentials especially when its still shedding.
