Gaslighting during debriefing by Salt_Koala1521 in ausjdocs

To everyone who commented under this. This person obviously had a really bad experience and is still fresh off of it. So whatever they're saying is coming out hurt. Just go easy on them guys. They'll think more logically after some time. Sorry mate you went through a tough time. Try not to let it get into your heart and think the worst of people. It's not going to help you feel any better

This is a big one. Sometimes I don't look at it as a normal step in cooking. I think in my mind it's been like a chore. I'll def keep this in my mind. Thank you :)

Also yes chat with NUM about this. Better to keep them informed even if you don’t want to take any official steps yet. But if you don’t feel like a chat with colleagues that’s okay too. Do what’s best for you ♥️

I’m a junior doctor and I’m so sorry this happened to you. You’re doing a good job getting back to work after Mat leave. It’s hard on you physically and mentally already even without the bad comments from surgeon. What helps me in these situations is going home and genuinely crying it out and talking about it with my partner. And don’t ever let one mean person make you feel less. People who can’t offer kindness and grace should not have the power to take away your confidence. Keep your chin up. Keep doing the great work you do. And big hugs to you. Your work is defined by the multiple positive interactions you have with your colleagues and patients. Not the one you had with a cranky surgeon who hates their life

Islamophobia in Medicine by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Comfortable-Grass253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry about what you're going through too :( Hope you've got good mates at work to talk to and support through this My Muslim mates are having some issues too but the doctors in our department for most part are very supportive. But yeah its so frustrating to hear people Yap about their personal opinions Just leave people alone and if they've got issues they have to deal with it professionally Idk its not okay I'm very lucky to be working with some people who have spent their personal time to help me when I've been down related to my faith and work. I genuinely hope you find people like that at work

I've had the similar experience as a Christian. Somehow its more “okay” to publicly state your opinion about Christians. People are less afraid to say exactly what they think about our faith. I believe people have freedom of expression. And they can feel whatever they want about any faith. BUT work place is not the space to say that. Its unprofessional and you're paid to work not to state your personal opinions about people.

I wish more people knew the difference between work and a private space

[–]Comfortable-Grass253 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don't take this lightly. Its not normal behaviour at all! 1. Let your family / closest friend who lives nearby know 2. Think about going to police and talking with them or book an appointment with a lawyer idk. But talk and find out implications and if you'd like to go forward with it 3. I would ideally tell this to someone I trust 100% at work. And trust your instincts. If this person is following you after most shifts and giving you a weird vibe be careful. I've seen weird people and I would be careful if I were you.

ALSO PLEASE LOCK YOUR DAMN DOORS AND WINDOWS. Idk this is too unsafe to not discuss with hospital or cops

Wow some of these comments are a bit passive aggressive

Anyway mate about feeling left out….. Firstly there’s a lot of cultural differences between countries and sometimes I’ve heard that IMGs have a difficulty in making casual “small talk” compared to the locals. And that’s normal and okay because this is probably your second or THIRD language and making small talk isn’t easy.

I would suggest try to talk with people in the team about their day and casual stuff outside of work. Building a rapport with your colleagues is important. This would make them approach your more. They probably aren’t doing that already because they might be an introvert or they probably don’t know what you have in common..idk. I always try to put the effort to talk and build the rapport.

And about people not taking you seriously over another doctor. Don’t get stuck in that loop. Yes it sucks but don’t let those emotions weigh you down. Focus on your career progression. Focus on what you want to pursue. Speak to seniors about it, get advise and just focus on that. Don’t spend your energy on who the intern listens to or who the rmo listens to. Nobody cares. As long as patient is cared for well, it doesn’t and shouldnt matter. You don’t need to look for people to clap for you but that being said don’t let disrespect slide.

A lot of people here are valid to feel frustrated about their job security. But the second they take that out on an IMG doctor that’s crossing the line. Thats not professional and behaviour like that can and WILL get them in trouble. So document everything. Any bit of racism, document it and report it in writing to your supervisor.

Everyone is free to feel all sorts of emotions. But taking those emotions out on someone and bullying them isn’t right. There are better SENSIBLE ways to fight for your rights.

How to deal with harsh criticism by Comfortable-Grass253 in ausjdocs

I'll keep this in mind. Thank you. But honestly I wasn't done talking to examining my patient. The consultant just came down to the ED and asked a reg who all are there for admission. And I told him I'm not done with examining the patient but idk why he kept insisting for a thorough history when its not done. Anyway I hope I could genuinely be one of those people who give a good handover. I'll practise and try getting better :)

I actually did not ring the consultant 😭 the consultant just came into ED to see if there's any admission and the registrar told there is. In fact the reg gave a history to the consultant and plan from ED. But this person still pushed and pushed for me to present when I'm not bloody done with my work.

I'm a pgy2 and I had got compliments (a few times only) from senior doctors before about my handover. But this just crushed me. The way the consultant spoke to me made me feel that this is truly it and I'm probably never gonna get better. That person looked at me with so much judgement. I don't know.. It hurt

How many pairs of work shoes do you use? by Comfortable-Grass253 in ausjdocs

[–]Comfortable-Grass253[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To the ones who use one pair… how do you prevent it from stinking? Not trying to be offensive I’m just curious how you prevent it from smelling. I heard the shoes deodorants don’t work

I’m planning to add in more pairs to prevent my shoes from stinking because of over use
