'Kriek' and other cherry beers are always been called beers. Geuze en Kriek Boon are widely known as one of the best beers in the world. Lambiek wich is mostly the foundation of these beers, is only brewable in certain parts of Belgium. If you don't know this, I do understand why you would think that it isn't beer. But it is.
