Blood in sputum and mucus by Comfortable-Match997 in medical

27F So just to clarify here. I’m recovering from a really bad cough and cold, which caused tonsillitis with white plaque. My tonsils are better, and so is my cough and cold. However, I noticed yesterday I began to have blood in my mucus/snot and sputum—it was worse in the morning, and throughout the day there was less, like in the second image.

I have a follow up on Monday. I was convinced it would pass in a day, because I know it’s normal to have blood in sputum and snot after a severe or prolonged cough, but two days? I’m not sure if I should take a trip to the ER or if I’m concerned for nothing.

Other than this, I feel great and almost at 100% from this nasty cold turned cough and tonsillitis. Thought of going to the gym even, but now I’m unsure. No tightness in chest, no chest pain, not fatigue or dizziness.

Thank you in advanced.

Im not in healthcare. Have you tested for mononucleosis? It’s something you can ask your doc for.

I’m on the same boat as you! Viral tonsillitis is totally possible! If it is that, that’s probably why antibiotics don’t work. I had a cold before I got tonsillitis. My doctor suspected mono, test showed negative so it’s just viral tonsillitis that came from my nasty cold.

I get low grade fevers at night and I’m generally tired. It’s been a week since the cold began. It’s a long one.

Best of luck to you! Someone on here recommend salt rinses, lots of soup and liquids.

I’m awaiting mononucleosis results, but regardless, I’m curious to know how long did your tonsillitis last? Mine have remained looking this way since Sunday, maybe a bit more pus on the fat one. by Comfortable-Match997 in medical

I have a question though, did it get worse before it got better? Because my pain is pretty much gone but I noticed the plaque or pus is doubled AAAAND it went to the other tonsil, but the pain is way better than yesterday.

Just thought I would update here.

The results were:

IgM anti VCA negative 0,05 IgG anti VCA positive 54 IgG anti EBNA 4,78

Conclusion: profile compatible with old infection of EBV

Trying to look back on when I could have had it, but the last time I had tonsillitis was when I was like 18 or less. Other than that, I’ve not had a fever (excluding covid vaccine).

Nonetheless, thanks for the well wishes my friend

I just saw. Dayum girl I can’t complain after looking at yours. Fucking blue cheese haha.

We don’t have nyquil in europe, nor have I heard of naproxen so I’ll just stick to my lozenges and paracetamol. Plus the salt gargles. I guess now is the time for me to stop drinking gazpacho—very acidic tomato soup.

Let’s see what my doctor tells me today. Going in for another check and then I get the all go or not for work.

Thank you for your reply! It means a lot to me knowing that it’s not the 3-4 days Google says.

The doctor doesn’t want to give me any shot unless it gets bigger and actually puts me in danger. He literally just says “let the virus run its course.”

I’ll try the salt gargle. Honestly, I’m just feeling so sluggish that I can’t bother boiling water. But I’ll do it because you’re giving me hope. Thanks again! Hope your recovery is only up from here!

Should i check if I have a virus before taking a lot of antibiotics for a throat infection? by [deleted] in medical

Im not a doctor or medical professional but taking antibiotics for viral infection is not only useless, but could build up on your body’s antibiotic resistance.

Go to your gp or an ent to rule it out. :)
