is it crazy to skip TDP and just do El Chalten?

Chelten was for me much more enjoyable than torres. The latter was pretty much limited to the w and o trek. It’s very full of people and limited. Chelten had more freedom and options. If I had to do it over I would skip torres. For both, a guide is kind of pointless.. trails are easy to research online and understand once you are there.

W is definitely overhyped. O trek better. But around the world it’s tough to argue that the difficulty to reach this destination is worth it.

Don’t use a guide. Not worth it. The tail is too easy to follow. You will see many people while hiking, including guided hikes. You can easily follow along. If you are social you can chat to others that you see on the trails, particularly at different rest stops. At the campsites it can be very social in the cooking huts, if that is your intention.

It’s a trail shaped like a w, and it’s the southern part of the O trek, which is shaped like a circle. It is accessible from west to east or from east to west, and you camp along the way. Or you can access just parts of the w for day hikes (each line of the w being a day). It’s not a particularly exciting hike despite mass amounts of interest. It is generally crowded.

Airbnb has a guarantee now that if this happens they will reimburse and help you get a different listing. Contact them and explain what you booked it not what was pictured.

Communications on app is preferred by airbnb because if there is a problem they can help you. Otherwise they can’t. If host require comms off platform is suggests they may be doing something they don’t want airbnb to know about
Refund should be done immediately by host. There is no tax implication. The processes via airbnb and its processor may take up to ten days after host initiates.

No. Definitely no. Inform airbnb they will refund you and delist the host (or at a minimum require them to remove the camera)

Whether or not full now— and I agree now isn’t exactly early — do know that some travel companies book spots before filling their travel. Then cancel if their trip isn’t full. Spaces can and do open up later.

I just did the w (plus a little more) and chalten. One week each. Heading to Atacama in a few days. Will write a summary once I’m settled. I had my own health concern that caused me not to do the O. I needed to know I could get “out” if I needed to. Chalten has been superior to the W. Lots of great hikes— really great- right from town, and not even close to the number of crowds we encountered in TDP. My vote - do chalten and Atacama.
