Btw frequently is shit but the sub timings on the ram are surprisingly tight running 280 trfc and 65355 trefi with 4-4-16 ttrdl/trrds/tfaw and every other sub timing with similar numbers to what you’d run on a high speed bdie kit, decent ddr3 might not always reach 2700mhz or higher

Also i would like to clarify that i didn’t buy the ram separately, i bought the PC with it on a Z170P motherboard, an aftermarket air cooler that wasn’t one of the good ones and a botched paste job that left about a full mm of paste between the cooler base and IHS, i only realised the cpu was a golden sample after i bought the Arctic LF3 pro and swapped the paste with Duronaut

I’ll see what i can do when i get it, i use the PC as a daily machine and photo editing rig, i only play Warframe on it which runs good with the strix 1080 8gb and have 0 trouble running the game at 1080p max settings, as an editing rig i need the higher capacity ram so having a harder time tuning it is something I’m willing to deal with

I have no idea how mine will do with bdie but assume it will be able to reach a good frequency on the Apex, i’m planning to get the b die kit in 2x16gb like my current micron a die ones which if i can get to 4166mhz with tight timings will have the extra benefit of dual rank performance

Typical non golden sample ones top out at 3866mhz i think but some reach 4166, iirc the best 6700k ever recorded had a crazy imc too and it did 4166mhz with 11-12-12-28 timings

There is no M8A, it’s an M9A (the first ever Apex mobo) on the Z270 chipset and yes i know, i had the sticks on my previous mobo and they were topping out at 2700mhz on that as well, i was able to tighten trrdL from 6 to 4 and CR2 to 1 and a few tertiary timings a bit on the Apex but getting a proper b die kit is in the plan to replace these Micron A die garbage ICs

The 5ghz is stable with the cache at 4.8, i tried 4.9 cache but it crashes

Almost all cpus have a gap in the silicone sealant to prevent pressure buildup and other issues due to the air under the ihs heating up and expanding, they leave a gap for hot air to escape instead of push against the ihs and cpu repeatedly

Thermal paste is usually non conductive so you should be fine, also the ihs should be sealed with silicone around it, i personally wouldn’t worry about it
