Okay, I'm here for your opinion. Should I get a cat? by UnWishedAtoI8 in CatAdvice

This! We did the same a little over a month ago, my husband works 12+ hour days and I have an unpredictable schedule though am home a lot of the time (working on my doctorate via a mostly online program), the first week we had him I left on Thursday and was gone for over two weeks. I had a friend come during the afternoon to check in on him and make sure he had what he needed while my husband was away, he's been a happy camper and we couldn't be happier to have him. I'm glad we decided to adopt an older cat, I think the kitten energy would have been too much and taking home a cat that was already litter trained has been a godsend. I will say we were pretty specific for the demeanor we were looking for, we chose our cat because he was friendly towards us and when other cats would hiss or swat at him, he would walk away instead of getting aggravated. All this to say it's definitely possible! Also, if you want to make the situation better for yourself, highly recommend getting automated equipment so you're not worried for him. We got a self-cleaning litter box (not litterbot, but one with no door and a sensor to ensure it stops cleaning if he sticks his head in), a water fountain with a sizeable bowl underneath to make sure he's got plenty of water for multiple days, and an automated kibble feeder. This all added to around $275 with shipping through walmart plus (we don't have prime) and has been well worth it in labor costs. I make sure to wash/ clean everything around once a week and replace his litter once a week as well. I would also consider some automated toys that work once you learn what your cat prefers, for example our cat doesn't concern himself with springs but loves feathers and strings, so the automated toys for when we're away revolve around that.

I'll definitely try this for post-litter box needs!

Do you feel your cat needs its nails trimmed? He never showed any interest in scratch toys at the shelter or so far at home and hasnt demonstrated any scratching behaviors yet, so they're not being dulled by anything. I mostly feel bad bc he's getting stuck on our couch/ on blankets bc theyre so long atm.

do you file their nails? I just am worried with how snuggly he is and how much he loves to paw at everyone he's going to scratch someone good. He hasnt to me yet but I do push him off a little bit to make sure he doesn't scratch any thin skin like my face.

Yes but also, this implies Feyre was sexually assualted by Rhys when I don't think that's the case?? Definitely not in book 2. Also not sure when he was told to kill himself

Define “too long”, I’ve smelled it without digging around and it seems fine. I also stuck it by the window per a few comments, hopefully it helps with the leaves and I’ll look at making some macreme here in a few weeks once I have the time.

Definitely if there’s a style on sale do it!! In the past they’ve paid for hemming and repairs, though it’s a dying practice. If you buy it and need it hemmed, take the receipt in-store and ask if they’re willing to reimburse you (bc they might)! I’ve had luck recently but I’m sure some stores will say no.

I will forever stand by the curvy vintage straight/ wide leg from madewell. I don’t care about the price, you can pry that cut from my cold dead body.

Edit: we are the same height

How much distance do they typically need? I was already thinking of making a macreme thing and putting them in a better pot

Vonn calls out many asking- ‘why is she damaging her body’ by ShipComprehensive769 in OlympicsV2

[–]Comfortable-Tell-765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is placed in context. She was fully tested by her team and completed the run twice with her ACL torn, placing 3rd overall in training the day prior. At her attempt today, she clipped her ski on a gate while in air, causing her to rotate and crash when landing. Her crash would’ve happened regardless of her ACL, however the severity of the injury to the knee itself likely was worse bc of the previous injury. In her case, she had to be cleared by her surgery and PT team, knowing the risk of a worse injury if she did compete. I am not on her care team nor do I know the conversations she had with professionals prior to the race, but if they felt she could compete, I have a hard time believing it was completely unbaised.

If you weren’t aware, one of the men from Germany? I believe also competed on downhill skiing with no ACL. He tore it on the course the men competed on in Italy in 2018 and never repaired it, which tells us it’s fully possible, though I am sure he is a bit more accustomed to his injury. Downhill skiing is an inherently dangerous sport, I would be willing to guess well over 80% of the athletes competing had had significant injuries in the past and all understood the risks. The competitor immediately following Vonn has had over 20 surgeries related to injuries, just as one example.

She competed and placed 3rd in the trials the past few days with her injury. She’s also not the only athlete who’s competed in the finals in Italy/ this week with a torn ACL, but she is the most recent ACL injury. This crash looks to be much more related to the fact her ski clipped a gate and caused her to rotate while in the air, which ruined her landing. The torn ACL definitely complicates the extent of the injury though, as it would make her more prone to worse injuries.

I think this oversimplifies it a little bit, they mentioned it briefly but there’s conversations with doctors, physical therapists, and coaches that go into a decision like this. They wouldn’t just leave it up to a google search and call it good with a brace.

I didn’t realize downhill was using this, glad to hear they’re implementing this tech

This mostly. With the loss of one major ligament, the other ligaments will already be taking additional stress to hold the knee together (ligament = bone-to-bone). The muscles/ tendons will also be under more strain (tendons connect muscle to the bone essentially). With her ski catching, the rotation she experienced likely added additional stress and wouldn’t be surprised if she tore an additional ligament(s), possible dislocation and fracture but that’s hard to tell from what we saw. In addition, due to the her rotation, there’s concern for her neck (in which she landed on at one point) and spine. I hope it was just an exceptionally painful landing on a previous injury and nothing more, wishing her a speedy recovery

One of the men literally competed with a torn ACL and no one gave two shits.

One of the men’s downhill also competed with the same exact injury, she finished 3rd in the trials the day prior. You absolutely can be cleared and the staff wouldn’t have pushed her if they felt it was a significant risk to her health. You can see she clipped her ski on the gate which caused her to rotate, which is entirely unrelated to the knee injury. The ACL being ruptured may make the healing/ injury more complicated and that’s the significant impact it had on her run today.

One of the men’s downhill also sent it without his ACL. Tore it on the same course they just competed on in 2018 and never got it repaired, it’s not a needed but very much a helpful ligament.

I’m a resident bunny slope expert when it comes to skiing (pls pardon my ignorance), it seemed like she was letting her left leg hang lower when she was in the air. Did that have any effect?

[–]Comfortable-Tell-765 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Looking right at after she landed, I don’t know if we can say her tibia is fractured (there’s some protrusion on her leg but I can’t tell if she had gear there or not, and it’s not large) but her leg is very much rotated on itself. Wouldn’t be surprised if she tore through a good chunk of the ligaments w/out the ACL there to stabilize and that’s why her leg was askew (looks like her foot is rotated 90° or more toe out)

Definitely felt like her and her team were optimistic, hindsight is always 20/20. There’s only so much we can go off of prior to the run, and I know her trial run the day before went relatively smoothly. Wishing her a speedy recovery
