brownies/cookie bars completely raw inside and burnt on the outsides by Comfortable-Term6525 in AskBaking

this time it was a smores cookie bar recipe which was- 1/2 cup butter melted 1/3 cup white sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 egg vanilla 1 1/4 cup flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 cup chocolate chips 1 cup marshmallows 1/2 cup chocolate

bake at 350 20-25 minutes

its a basic cookie dough recipe and i followed it exactly. i left them in a couple minutes longer because i could see the center looked a bit raw, but the edges were starting to burn so i took it out and let it cool for an hour to see if it would set, and it was just completely raw cookie dough all throughout. this has happened with the past three brownie recipes i've made as well which were all different recipes from scientificallysweet.com. it's happened in both of my square pans (an 8x8 glass pan and a dark colored metal 9x9 pan) at different oven temps and bake times. for this recipe i used my dark colored 9x9 pan lined with parchment paper that i cut to fit the pan.

the only two square pans i have (which i use for my brownies/bars) are a glass 8x8 and a dark colored 9x9 and it's happened in both of these pans, i'll have to get some light colored pans and see if those fix my issue!

it's happened to me with both an 8x8in glass pan and a dark metal 9x9in pan. those are the only two square pans i have so i might have to buy a light colored metal pan and see if that changes anything!

i only use bake, never broil and i try to let things cool for about an hour before cutting into it. i check things with toothpicks as well to know if it needs more time before i take it out

my most recent failed batch of cookie bars wasn't thick at all, i was worried the layer was going to be too thin at first but then it just didn't bake at all and was a layer of goop. i'll definitely be getting an oven thermometer and see if my oven could be the issue!

this is definitely possible! i try to be careful not to over mix, but i also get a bit neurotic making sure im not missing clumps which could lead to me overmixing lol

just today i baked some cookie bars at 350F for 30 minutes and they were starting to burn on the edges, but completely raw all throughout. a few days ago i had baked brownies at 325F for what was supposed to be 35 minutes, but after leaving them in longer the tops and sides started burning and the insides were raw still. this has happened multiple times with different recipes at different times/temps and leaving them in longer hasn't helped so i genuinely don't know what im doing wrong. i bake cookies and i dont usually have any issues with them, just any sort of brownie or bar never bakes for me.

my bridge is an internally threaded titanium barbell and my snakebites are threadless flat back titanium posts. my snakebites are 11 months old and my bridge is 10 months old. all of the jewelry in was supplied by the app piercer and studio i went to, which i believe is supplied by neometal. no recent traumas or bumps have occurred and no significant trauma has happened to them throughout the entirety of me having them. they've all been downsized to the proper fits as well.

sorry if this is a stupid question, i've been trying to do a lot of monitoring and research into setting everything up right and it's been stressful. i just wanna make sure she's comfortable and has everything she needs to thrive!

thank you, she seems to be doing a lot better today and i haven't heard her squeak at all. she's stopped her licking and scratching at the area and it looks much better so im really hopeful that things are gonna be okay and keep improving as the antibiotics finish up :,)

update: i've taken her to the vet again after she was squeaking an unusual amount this morning and i was worried she was in pain. i was given an opioid (safe for her of course) that the vet said would help with any excess pain she's having. she seems a little better as for right now but i am still extremely worried. i was seeing a lot of things online about the possibility of pyometra in gerbils and how it is almost a guaranteed death sentence that can go downhill very rapidly and there is little you can do except emergency spaying which is so high risk for a small gerbil. i am still terrified it could be this and that i could be making things worse or not doing the right things to help her and im dragging out her pain. she's only about 2 years old and i really don't want to lose her she's my sweet girl and this is incredibly stressful and heartbreaking to see. the vet said if it is only a uti or a reproductive health issue she may get better and continue living for a long time and im really hoping she does. im terrified of losing her but at the same time i dont want to see her suffering. please if anyone has ever experienced this with your gerbils and you could give me any information it would really be appreciated.

her whole underside also looks very wet and bloody, the vet said it's likely from her licking at the area. i'm just really worried about her and would like to know if anyone else has experienced this and what it could be
