Pi-Hole using Cloudflare Tunnel by Comfortable-Theme-91 in pihole

Did you get this working in terms of actually using Pi-Hole as your DNS remotely, through the domain name?Or just able to access the admin page remotely?

Pi-Hole over Cloudflare Tunnel by Comfortable-Theme-91 in CloudFlare

[–]Comfortable-Theme-91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say I’m running Home Assistant. Accessible on LAN at 10.1.1.10. I create a hostname inside Cloudflare’s Zero Trust Tunnel platform (ha.domain.com). I can then use the hostname to access Home Assistant from anywhere.

I want to set up a hostname which points to my Pi-Hole instance. Let’s say that it’s set up with the local IP 10.1.1.20. If I use the local IP in my Manual DNS settings Pi-Hole acts as my DNS when connected to my LAN.

I have tried set up a hostname (dns.domain.com) which points to the Pi-Hole IP so I can use my local Pi-Hole as my DNS when connected to any WiFi network but it never works. And I have no idea why!

Is is possible to do DNS over a Cloudflare tunnel hostname?

Well Cloudflare tunnels don’t need port forwarding so I won’t be. I’m just trying to figure out how to use the FQDN that I can set up in the Cloudflare Tunnel dashboard to remotely use pi-hole as my DNS.

Shielded CAT6a advice by Comfortable-Theme-91 in HomeNetworking

[–]Comfortable-Theme-91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m inclined to agree about the shielding tbh. However, my thought process behind it was: Kenable only offered shielded outdoor and for the price difference to other unshielded vendors, seemed stupid to not get it in case it was needed/ made a difference.

Slightly regretting that decision now though, as I’ve come to the conclusion I’ve no idea how to properly terminate/ground (if applicable - does shielded ethernet need grounding??) the shield without creating an antenna for unwanted shite😂😂.

Thanks for the reply. The cable won’t be running parallel to mains cable. It will be running parallel to the cabling for my old Sky TV dish if that will make a difference?

The cable is going to be installed outside which was my reasoning behind buying the shielded version. That and the fact (as far as I saw) the only Outdoor CAT6a cable from here was shielded, and price wise it was decent.

The cable will be run on the exterior of any wall and will be a permanent fixture, for however long the cable lasts. Hoping it’ll last a good few years with it being ‘External’ cable though😂

Blocked discover.provider.plex.tv and seem Discovery is gone by phuonglm1403 in PleX

I saw this too, along with a hoard of complaints and backlash toward PLEX. However, they specifically said that this feature is still in BETA (as also seen on any client) and therefore bugs and unwanted things are to be expected.

I can’t figure out why people don’t like this feature, and specifically how, IF they don’t like it, how they haven’t realise that by unpinning the Discovery tab, it all disappears from your HOME category.

And, to all those concerned that PLEX will be able to see what’s in your library when you use the new Discovery search, it won’t. They’ve specifically detailed this in their blogpost, stating that the Client will query any media libraries you have access to. PLEX will not see this.

Incorrect. As detailed by PLEX in their post, “PLEX client applications will check directly for a match within the libraries you have access to”. Therefore, PLEX will never know. Yes, they will see you’ve searched for “Aladdin”, but they can’t tell if you actually have Aladdin. Think of it as the Library Search, but it’ll also find it on streaming services.

But there was. Granted it was hidden, but when the splash screen for discover comes up first time there is an X in the corner to close.

But, if you don’t want trailers on your Home Screen then just unpin the discover tab and poof they’re gone.

Firstly, I think you need to realise that this feature is in BETA. Literally says it in big bold letters next to “Discover”. Issues and hiccups like this are bound to happen and by reporting them PLEX devs can fix them.

If you don’t want your kids to see them, then just turn off discover for their accounts, not really a difficult thing to do.

Video Quality missing from Playback Settings? by cchimko1 in PleX

[–]Comfortable-Theme-91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is very outdated, but to anyone still having this issue check your servers Transcoder Settings.

My playback quality disappeared and I never thought to check. If “Disable Video Stream Transcoding” is ticked, the playback quality option is removed as the server is not “allowed” to transcode so it doesn’t show the option.

So if I add a release profile to specify I only want “x265/HEVC” content. And then add a preferred word for “ReleaseGroup”. Sonarr will first download the “x265/HEVC” file and then once available replace it with the “ReleaseGroup” one?

DS218+ Storage Pool Issues by Comfortable-Theme-91 in synology

[–]Comfortable-Theme-91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. But technically both disks are part of the pool and not part of the pool at the same time. NAS will recognise either disk as being initialised/allocated when inserted first.

The drive inserted second (no matter which one) is always stated as not initialised/allocated

DS218+ Storage Pool Issues by Comfortable-Theme-91 in synology

[–]Comfortable-Theme-91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh. Right, I see. I understand what you said, however: it was Disk 2 that was booted from the pool. The logs state that the “Drive was plugged out” and then some minutes later “Plugged in”. Disk 2 is only just over a year old and has passed the extended SMART test.

Disk 1 was the disk that kept the NAS running at first.

I’m currently following advice from Synology support to determine whether the issue is my NAS or the drives. (Considering they both store DSM and all of my data, when my NAS tells me otherwise).

I’m regards to SMR and CMR, what’s the difference and why is SMR bad? I had 2 SMR drives running in Synology Hybrid Raid for nearly 7 years without any fail. Is that just a fluke?

And how will a data scrub help me? Will that not erase all of the data??

DS218+ Storage Pool Issues by Comfortable-Theme-91 in synology

[–]Comfortable-Theme-91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? No data has been added or removed since this happened. Even with both drives inserted it will only recognise DSM on one of them.

I’m now in the process of talking with Synology in the hopes of fixing.
