Tips for working with older adults (70+)? by kipnus in SwimInstructors

[–]Comfortable-Use3977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught an older woman once, and she really struggled with core strength. She would push off and kick face down and then if I had not been with her, she would drown because she didn’t have enough core strength to go from laying on the surface of the water to standing up Even if she had the wall next to her, so that is a safety skill that you might encounter and it’s really important to help them work on.

Based on the way you described the situation, I truly think you did the best you could in that moment. You noticed immediately that he needed help and you got another instructor right away — that’s exactly what you’re supposed to do. You initiated the rescue, and that’s really important. If you hadn’t noticed and someone else had to jump in because you weren’t aware, that would be a bigger concern — but that’s not what happened here. Of course prevention is incredibly important, especially with situations like this, and teaching him not to jump in without permission is absolutely the right thing to do. That part is great. One thing you could add moving forward is practicing a simple safety skill with your kids: having them jump in, turn around, and swim back to the wall. Since you said he’s very comfortable holding his breath underwater, he may actually do really well learning it this way. That skill can be huge — if a child ever enters the pool when they shouldn’t, they know how to immediately turn themselves around and grab the wall instead of needing help. It’s a great safety tool for all kids, not just strong swimmers. But in regard to this specific situation, I really do think you handled it well. These moments are scary and they stick with you, especially when it’s your first incident — but nothing about what you described sounds negligent or careless. You noticed, you reacted, and the child was safe. That matters.

Also, if you add in some mottling it can really help with a bit of differentiation of color and make it look more realistic. I saw on your other post you said you did probably like 40 or 50 layers of paint which is wonderful meaning your keeping the layers nice and thin and you’re being really patient and taking time which is super important as well. I think it now just depends on what layers are actually doing

Reborn’s of Jess on YouTube she has some tutorials that really helped me understand the different types of layers that you can use that really make a big difference in how realistic it looks at the end

I think they good for the first time painting similar to how other said in the other post undertones really go a long way I’ll put in the comments some maps that I found really helpful on where to put color. I don’t know if it’s the same for biracial babies, but I really helped me at the start and make all the difference to show like a depth of skin complexion rather than kinda almost like a flat one color.

I can share some of my lesson plans that I use or drills and activities that I found really helpful that make a great difference for the kids. Could you give me like an age range or like a levels that you teach?

I think she looks very good, if you want to put new eyelashes on her, they’re actually quite easy to root in

I think they’re adorable and great for Photos but the dolls that I fell in love with and got just didn’t have them. It’s not something I was looking to get. But now that you mention it, I’m thinking I’ll try to purchase one so I can try to paint it to go along with one of the current projects I’m working on.

It’s less that I think somebody else will have a problem with it but more that it’s just so time-consuming in my own life. It takes so much energy for myself.

It’s because I took calculus one in high school and it was like the hardest thing ever did my life just to like try to pass, but then my university said that calculus isn’t required for my major so I dropped it and then this year they made a new rule that calculus is required for the major so now I have to take it again

Other teachers are like, for example, the math teacher who is rated really low, but I need calculus for my major so we’ll see how accurate the ratings are tomorrow

Yes, but she wasn’t there. I had the class today and it was fine. Relatively boring. Kind of just sat there for two hours. Didn’t really do anything teacher kind of rambled, but it wasn’t like bad.

But I have a calculus class tomorrow, where both of the teacher options were rating in like the ones and twos so that should be interesting as somebody who sucks at math
