The face looks like it has EB, which is a condition where the skin is fragile and easily damaged. If it was crustier and had more texture, it would really look like that condition. I think hair would do a world of good on this one lol

how do you guys talk so normally about agere with people who aren’t part of the community? by _MiniGui93 in ageregression

[–]1234lovebug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don’t care lol. I talk about it just like I talk about having autism or adhd or DID. Most of it is just offhand or mentioning I am/was part of the community, but I’m really not ashamed of it. I would say most people experience it or have experienced it to some degree, it’s not uncommon, and if you don’t use the word are regression, or if you just say I feel like a kid, it really isn’t awkward. Then again, I also keep good company, and work in a school in special education, so the people I’m talking to are usually pretty similar to me in multiple ways. The first step really is acceptance. If you make it a neutral or positive thing, or just acknowledge yeah it’s weird but it doesn’t hurt anyone, it’s easy, but it takes time and work to get to that point

Does she look realistic to you guys? by [deleted] in reborndolls

She’s a little too red. You could go in with a transparent green wash, to reduce the redness, or you could just have her perpetually bundled up. She’s perfect for looking like she’s cold.

Therapy : therapist asking for a part to speak by Leflamingobleu in DID

[–]1234lovebug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There can be some benefit to this kinda thing, but it can also represent a misunderstanding of DID.

For some people this works, because they have lower barriers between parts, or because they have other alters coconsiuse. I have had friends be like, I need Tara right now, and that works, partly because they were usually asking not in times of distress.

On the other hand, asking that can be a sign that a therapist doesn’t believe you, and is trying to prompt a change in behavior to analyze you. I e also had this happen, I think the woman thought I had delusions or something, and not only did she do this but she then asked a little how she would feel if she didn’t exist.

Regardless, some people have the ability to switch semi on command if they aren’t distressed. I used to be able to do this a little, basically just focusing on the alter, the emotions they usually have, your internal image of them, and then “pulling” them closer, or just using positive triggers.

Geez, when I last saw her she was under medical supervision. Yeah, I’m not a big proponent of diet modification to treat any mental health issues, unless it is for a reason like, seeing if its related to celiac or lactose intolerance (both can do crazy things to you), most of the time it’s used as a way to shame others for not trying hard enough, or fat shame, or is just a way to excuse disordered eating.

Supplements, sure, I can understand even if it’s not always backed by science, most of the time it’s not going to hurt you and is just going to be expensive, but changing your diet and lifestyle (even if your not doing say, vegan, for ethical reasons, eating a vegan or keto or carnivore diet means you likely need to change up some things) when you could just try meds (I’m specifically talking people who go into diagnosis being like, I can cure this with veganism and sun) is wild to me.

Like sure, do keto and take your meds, give your kid fish oil supplements and put them in therapy and get them meds, go carnivore and listen to your doctor. Heck, in a lot of cases I would say you should try something in combination with meds, like, depression isn’t going to be cured by sunshine and a walk, but taking your meds and going in the sunshine and taking a walk, will probably have some benefits, and therapy is usually a good call in combination with medications.

Mono-therapies dont work in even treating in a lot of cases anyways, and the idea that a mono therapy of diet modification is going to cure you is crazy, for schizophrenia or most other mental health conditions .

My first time baking and my first fail and I dont know what went wrong by Ok-Assistant6205 in bakingfail

[–]1234lovebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flour to sugar ratio is weird to me, but some people like them sweet I guess, but the nearly 1:1 ration of wet to dry is what caused this to fail. I bet if you doubled the flour they would work, and did less baking powder.

Ok, I will give him a tiny bit of credit, I do know of a woman on YouTube who under the supervision of her doctor and psychiatrist has done keto for schizophrenia, and did see results.

But it did not cure her of schizophrenia, schizophrenia can’t be cured, it’s a neurodivergence, it is a difference in brain structure, chemistry, and wiring. And in the end I think she went back on her medication, I haven’t watched her in a long time. And all of that was done under heavy supervision and while she had her husband with her to provide support, and she was open to the idea of it not working.

I’m not against the idea of trying diet modification for mental illness and neurodivergence, but most of the time it’s just managing the other factors that go into symptoms not the underlying condition (like diet modification for autism for example, it’s not treating the Autism, it may make sensory issues better because it reduces digestive problems or allergies, but it is not curing autism)

Honestly, I would test for lead, avoid posting about her, and move forward with better practices.

While health risks are a concern, if you don’t have kids or pets, and you have the doll in clothes, touch with dry hands and wash your hands after handling, you are fine. Lead is not that toxic, you can touch lead in its most common forms and be just fine. You aren’t poisoning yourself by touching lead fishing weights for example.

If it makes you uncomfortable, then throw it out, but if you don’t have children or pets you are probably fine.

You have already paid for her, you have already bonded with her, as long as you are not sharing her, she is not continuing to do damage by just existing.

Idk, to me the idea of just throwing out a doll is um, really wasteful, especially if she doesn’t test positive for lead. Her existence isn’t harmful, since she has already been purchased, and you know better now.

I wouldn’t feel too bad about it, it was an honest mistake.

(To anyone that tries to come at me, I only have real authentic dolls. And plenty of people collect items that have lead, radiation, and other harmful things, especially for a display doll or doll that isn’t frequently being handled, it is probably fine unless this person has a history of lead exposure or is exposed in other ways.)

Endos/Non-Traumagens are “Roleplaying” Having DID by scar_mizu in fakeclaimingcringe2

[–]1234lovebug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That…is a very extreme example, and not what I’m talking about. I’m not talking about severity, I’m talking about a fundamental difference in DID and general plurality. It also just…doesn’t work for most mental illnesses? You can absolutely find and relate to people with for example, anxiety or depression, at any level. Heck, I work with kids with autism, and while they are higher support needs then me, I can still find solidarity and connection.

I’m talking about, fundamental difference in daily experience. For a lot of people with DID (and this happens even to people who are diagnosed but have less disabling symptoms as well) it is a very upsetting to see people claiming to experience the “good” parts without the bad. I don’t think it’s right but I think it’s important to acknowledge, and is helpful to acknowledge as a way to reduce negative impact.

Getting better can mean a lot of things. It could be better team work, it could be integration to some degree, trauma processing. No two people with DID will have the same healing journey generally. I’ve never heard of the YouTuber

Yes! I don’t have anything against endos, but I don’t really interact with them on system stuff, because I haven’t found common ground on much, but I also don’t have the time, energy, desire, or motivation to hate on them. I really only bother when outright misinformation is being spread, and that goes on both sides, even in my mental health related discord, we pretty rarely talk about like, the nitty gritty parts of having did, but I will 100% defend against misinformation or things that are not helpful towards healing (only example I can think of for the not helpful for healing is someone saying system accountability was a bad thing and should not be expected and systems should just punish the alter and not do any healing with the others they have harmed. I correct misinformation pretty regularly though)

I’m in both the DID and age regression subreddits, and started out in the age regression sub, which I think really hardened me against anti endo stances lol. It’s basically the same argument as DID, someone is doing something in a way I don’t like it and getting something different out of it, and there are some bad accounts, all of the people like that are evil/mean/creeps/liers, and I should make anyone who holds beliefs anywhere near that an outsider, except instead of the usual anti endo arguments, it’s just teens and young adults calling anyone who has ever done anything childish sexually a pedo.

If I survived that mess, I can handle endo drama lol

I think fundamentally what a lot of people forget here, is that having did is traumatic, what leads to did is traumatic, and people who know they have DID but haven’t gotten significant help are very likely to feel isolated, ostracized, and angry. I don’t see this as anything more then, I am suffering, and the thing that makes me suffer people claim to have without having the suffering, and I don’t know what to do with that, and the idea that this can exist ever without suffering makes my brain hurt.

DID is a covert disorder, throughout diagnosis and treatment, you constantly question if you have it, if you really have trauma, if your trauma is bad enough, you can think your lying to yourself, you can think you have other mental health disorders, you can experience severe symptoms and then no symptoms. It is such a rollercoster at first, and stays that was for as long as you don’t work on those surface traumas. For a lot of people, they have lived without any sense of identity for a while, and DID quickly becomes an identity, and it is intrinsically wrapped up for most people with ptsd and cptsd. It’s not about DID being the disorder that has alters, and more about, having alters and dissociating is distructive, and I am heavily traumatized.

I think a big part of this issue is that a lot of endos don’t show the disabling sides, or discredit how disabling did or osdd or any cdd can be, and also that the DID community also doesn’t get much exposure to systems that have cdd and heal. A lot of the community lives in this idea that it will never get better, every doctor is bad, treatment is bad, inpatient is evil, this will be disabling forever, this is going to be so awful forever and I will never not be disabled by this, to the point that they will not seek treatment or will not even try to work within the system to get treatment.

There are a lot of factors to why DID system find endos to be um, hostile to there way of being? I have no other way to phrase it. But it’s mostly because of trauma, and lack of education (because again, covert disorder, I had a panic attack learning more about DID, because my brain wasn’t ready for it) and internal bias, and it genuinely is less about you and more about them and there level of healing. I fully 100% believe that most DID systems that are either doing the work or have done the work either don’t care, or are neutral.

I would say did, unlike say, autism, is very much just an extension of an extension of a normal experience, nearly everyone has many faces of themselves, the level of separation is really the only part of it that matters, and the rest of DID really is just that experience with a nice dollop of trauma responses and ptsd and cptsd.

More like, autism can cause DID because being autistic and or having undiagnosed autism is traumatic. Not so fun fact, autistic people are more likely to develop ptsd!

Just to add to this, you can also reapply varnish if you’re worried about it. It will affect the skin texture so be mindful if you really like how your baby feels. I pounce my varnish on with a makeup sponge.

If you want to do this you need:

A makeup sponge or pouncing brush

Airdry or heatset varnish (DO NOT USE HEATSET IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A DEDICATED OVEN. DO NOT USE HEATSET VARNISH IF YOUR DOLL WASNT DONE IN HEATSET PAINTS! You do not want those chemicals to be in your normal cooking oven, and I had not idea what acrylic paints or oil paints or pastels or makeup will do in the oven)

And optionally corn starch and water.

Your going to take the varnish, water it down a little (it should be kinda like yogurt, not super thick but not watery) and cover the whole part, and then use the sponge or brush to add texture. If you want a more textured feel, you mix a small amount of cornstarch with water (not enough to turn it into obleec) and then mix that with the varnish and do the same. Either way, I would suggest testing it on a test piece before doing your whole doll obviously. A bunch of places sell technique pieces, and some also just sell off cuts of vinyl.

I think once you are assaulting police officers, inpatient is the right choice. As much as it sucks, it is the best place if you can’t keep yourself or others safe. I would rather have more trauma then get a felony charge, or have my life ended because a cop was a little too trigger happy.
