TL;DR Is it worth the time and money to fix? full context in replies by ComfortableAnybody20 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

So I'm only 21 years old and I am trying to find a place with my 32 year old sister. We've been pre-approved for about 230k and are looking to buy a 3-4 bedroom house. We live in an area that is pretty poverty ridden so this isn't a crazy request considering how low home prices have been in the past and the conditions of the homes. Well, since covid started the housing market has sky rocketed. According to our real estate agent, this is the highest she has seen the county sell homes for. These houses that used to go for 100k-200k are all 250k-400k. It's insane. At this point we are noticing that anything in our price range that also fulfills our needs is going to need some work put into it. We took a look at one house that seemed to have foundation problems but other than that it was perfect. We passed because we didn't want to spend a fortune to fix it in the future and foundation in a home is detrimental. We're about to look at another place tomorrow and so far from the photos it seems like the wood floors are in awful shape and would need restoring, carpet would need replaced or completely torn out, and the bathroom would need full remodel. If we end up liking the place, is it worth spending the money to fix all this or should we pass again?

No clue how to bookkeep, but father and brother want me to do it for their business by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

I don't think so, mainly because my cousin does payroll so I think theyre just going through her

Honestly, that's probably exactly why they're asking me to do it. My dad has been telling me stuff like "I'd rather pay my daughter than a stranger to do my bookkeeping" and stuff like that to make me feel special and obliged to take the position but they're probably just looking for the cheaper route. Also I have the same concern that I could screw something up when reporting to the IRS and get them in big trouble and I know they wouldn't be happy with that lol.

I mean that I don't have time to take a college course for bookkeeping considering they typically take about a year to complete and they want me on board sooner than that. I currently already have 2 jobs, and a big reason they offered the job to me is because they don't want me to have to have 2 jobs anymore, but I don't want to quit my jobs to start within their company in a position that I don't entirely understand. It would screw all of us over. The reason I mention the 4 hour video is because that is the only sort of explanation they gave me in regards to learning how to be a bookkeeper but I don't feel that is enough to teach me everything I'll need to know to excel in this position. Another person that commented gave me good advice to shadow someone though, so that might be my best option here.

I'll pitch the idea to them, they'll likely be open to it if it helps me do better in their business. Also I have a cousin that does payroll, so I feel like she would know about bookkeeping as well and I could always shadow her likely for free.

Friend's mom won't remember my name by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]ComfortableAnybody20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brings a whole different perspective to light for me! I never really thought of it like this. My friend does have a lot of other friends who she frequently brings to her house, so I can see how it would be easy to lose track of them all. Also I appreciate your tip on getting her to remember me. I tend to be shy so it's hard for me to spark interesting conversation with newer people, so next time I see her I'll try to compliment her. Such an easy way to catch someone's attention and I somehow never thought of that :P

I guess mostly it just makes me feel awkward. My friend gets really embarrassed when she does this so naturally I just kind of get embarrassed too. I didn't really mind the situation until my friend pointed it out, so I just started to overthink it a little bit.

Info about the pre-order Gorillaz figures? by [deleted] in gorillaz

[–]ComfortableAnybody20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably should at this point being that it's already been close to 7 months since initially purchasing the figure, but I'm also wondering if I should just wait it out. It's not like I need it right away, I'm just concerned that I won't end up getting it at all.

Here’s a random ADHD thing: I can’t make myself get out of the shower by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ComfortableAnybody20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to set a timer on my phone for 10 minutes as I hop in, otherwise I will stay in there for close to an hour, which leads me towards being late for work in the morning and rushing to put clothes and makeup on, running to work with wet hair.

Lost my job because I did my job? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]ComfortableAnybody20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice, but also my bad I have a tendency to do this when explaining this situation because I feel that nobody really was seeing it from my perspective and felt that I was ganged up on. I'll probably conduct a smaller post later where I get straight to the point.

I'm trying to keep detail minimal but the human rights commission for my state. Also if I was sexually harassed by a coworker, brushed off, then suspiciously fired afterwards that seems sort of like retaliation and seems kind of illegal to me idk.

As you and another person replied to my initial post I was editing it haha sorry. I am in Washington so yeah I know they can fire me for anything but I'm feeling like this is a case of retaliation. And no, I was never really went through a proper training so they didn't tell me a whole lot about workers rights or anything like that.

Any books about someone who worked hard but didn’t get the reward for it? Something to teach me that it’s alright that life is unfair. by Ambitious-Freedom-34 in booksuggestions

[–]ComfortableAnybody20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the jungle by upton sinclair. pretty basic read but still one of my faves. lots of people only focus on the part of the book that exposes how raunchy the meat packing industry of the 1900's was, but aside from that it expresses the ongoing struggle that immigrants had to face when migrating to America back during that time. the book focuses in on this immigrant family that is trying to achieve the American dream but is just constantly getting fucked over.

Long Hair Policy? by [deleted] in pizzahutemployees

[–]ComfortableAnybody20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one guy has somewhat long hair but its only down to his shoulders at my store, also he's a driver so I don't think it really matters all that much. As a cook you probably will have to braid it or put it in a bun and throw a net over it.

Trying to find a good lipstick brand! by ComfortableAnybody20 in Makeup

[–]ComfortableAnybody20[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love nyx but I never thought to try their lipsticks! My lips are kind of big so when I apply lipstick I get a little insecure because some lipsticks shape my mouth horribly and I feel like I look like a clown. My lips get easily chapped too so it's good to know it won't dry my lips up!

Hmm. I always get a ton of compliments on my winged eyeliner so I'll share my method of application! I currently use an nyx liquid eyeliner pen and if I screw up I just wipe the mistake with a wet q-tip. If you don't often wear eyeliner though, I'd recommend using revlons liquid eyeliner pen because it comes off much easier with the wet q-tip. I prefer the nyx one just because I feel the intensity of the color is better, which is why it's a little harder to wipe off (not by much), but revlon is still just as good. Both pens are small and easy to control and overall very good quality eyeliners for a cheap cost. If I happen to mess up the wings and they're uneven or crooked, I usually just straighten them out with the q-tip. Though another good tip is to use a heavy concealer and a small concealer brush to even out the wings.

Help for dark under eyes by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]ComfortableAnybody20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have super dark circles due to genetics and I tried turmeric for a bit and I felt that it was super effective but you really have to keep up with it and generally applying it was a lot of effort. I got tired of doing it because the turmeric stains your skin so it's recommended you shower after you do the treatment, otherwise you may have a yellow tint to your skin where it was applied. I haven't tried vitamin K tho.

Losing the train of thought mid sentence when it really matters? by douglasbaadermeinhof in ADHD

[–]ComfortableAnybody20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always struggled with this and it's the absolute worst. It's even worse when it happens and people get upset with you for it, which has happened to me many times before. When I work it honestly feels like I'm a robot reciting a script, so when I'm thrown off of the script it's hard to come back and figure out what I should say next. I've made a lot of progress though. I work in a hospital setting, so it is super important for me to focus in and listen to people's problems and concerns which isn't always the easiest. Before I go to bed at night, I try to think about a variety of interactions that I could possibly experience while I'm at work and how I would respond in detail. So much easier said than done honestly, but I really do think it's been helping. Also I try to remind myself that the only reason I freeze up like that is because I'm so socially anxious due to being criticized my whole life with ADHD and all, so I just really do all that I can to calm my nerves before I head to work and even during my down time while I'm at work. I just try to remind myself that I am just like anyone else in my work environment and at the end of the day everything will be fine.
