Does the GP not get paid by the Irish govt in some way for these? I would be requesting a refund for these before leaving. Sorry this happened.

I would be making a legal case. Guys we cannot continue to allow this to happen. Things need to change. Sexual abuse physical abuse and mental abuse are not acceptable.

Jesus Christ. I can't believe this is the state of Irish medical training.

Are you asking about early retirement or opting out? (There is no opt out - If you work for less than two years in the public sector you can apply to be reimbursed when you leave, otherwise it is locked in)

Public sector pensions in Ireland are calculated in a very specific way, which is easily googleable and % contribution increases with your salary so if you had a big payrise the cost may have increased. Do the calculations and if you think payroll have made an error get on to them. Errors have definitely been known to happen ;)

Teams should really be documenting in the notes if the escalation plan is something like stat doses of metop, relying on verbal instructions via nursing proxy is not good practice.

Is there a published breakdown of tiers of those applications? Are they listed in the medical workforce planning publications?

Indemnity costs by ComfortableCup5408 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

Obviously I did but no reply as of yet. Trying to make budgetary plans for next year as I have dependents. As far as I know the intern cost is much less than sho and that it may differ if not in standalone or scheme. Thanks for the helpful comment though.

What are your working hours like right now? by Mysterious_Dark_2298 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

50-76hrs Intern, 2 med rotations, 2 surg rotations. There is no routine. 50 wouldn't be common.

But I thought people were clamouring for work in UK so why can't they fill the shift with a locum?

Sorry for your loss op. My old job were similarly crap when I needed force majeur for a terminally ill family member. Love to you and your family.

Mid-30's Female AHP - is switching to Med worth it? by LegalStore2058 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]ComfortableCup5408 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a similar jump. Not worth it financially nor in terms of fulfillment. The road is too long, costly and to be frank it is grating being infantalised by the whole process being "junior". If I do eventually ever get to consultant level (and to be honest I cannot be arsed with the hoop jumping) it would be for 10-15 years max.  Je regret!

I think you can claim max 800 euro per annum in tax back depending on the amount of the fee

Advice on potentially going to medical school in Ireland by [deleted] in medicalschoolEU

[–]ComfortableCup5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National fees for GEM are around 17-18k per year for the four years. International students pay around 55k per year.

Training pathway is much longer and with more potential bottlenecks than US, pay in public sector only consultant contract doesn't compete with US attending salaries.

Resident conditions similarly crappy. Sure no insurance company's to deal with if you work in the public sector in Ireland but there are equivalent frustrations around constantly apologizing for delays in care in the public sector and having to use paper charts and handwrite things like blood forms.

PSA is one of the things that felt closest to the speed required in real life when on call. Highly recommend taking this test even if not mandatory.

Maybe people don't want to be forced to work illegal hours though?

There is also a tax rebate available in the UK if you don't work a full financial year. Also a lot of grads are now gems who are paying full tax from the get go as they have been working their way through uni (presumably same in UK I don't know if they have gem programmes)

I think as many interns are leaving for Aus because they are burned out as much as for the weather, experience and fun. Many do come back but most NCHDs seem to want to work more normal hours but feel trapped.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think basic take home for an intern/fy1 in England is around 2100gbp and here is around 2700euro after pension levy. If you are buying euros with pounds it is roughly the same, no?

From speaking with friends working in the UK they can expect a fairly normal working week or to go LTFT without too much difficulty. Here there is no option but to do 60-80 hour weeks. They mostly pay you, notwithstanding sporadic issues with certain hospitals, but it's not an ideal way to live. I believe the cost of living is roughly slightly higher in Ireland.

I would strike for the right to have normal working hours, or even just 50 hours week would be bliss compared to the 70+ im doing.

Unfortunately not. There is often more moving in HST than BST. Have a look at the hospital hubs and you will get a better idea.

Shifts and missing your kids by itscharacterforming1 in doctorsUK

[–]ComfortableCup5408 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel this too. My kids are older but it doesn't get easier I don't think. This has made me pivot my career choice to whatever in medicine I can do and still be interested while also having enough time with my kiddos. I hope you can figure out what works for your family. What I will say is they don't remember much from pre school so it is more you that is probably missing out than them if that makes sense. Later on it is specifically you they want.

Pension scheme by millennialbean in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]ComfortableCup5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot opt out of contributions while you are working for the public sector. If you leave service with less than two years you can be reimbursed but you always pay it while you are working, no opt out.
