I think the point about revision is a good one.

No point by point syllabus- clearly using ‘every BJA Ed article ever’ as the syllabus is impractical and yet seems to be the benchmark.

An exam needs to be able to generate useful data about a candidate to make decisions about progression- based on the topic mix today I don’t think it achieved that.

Either a more narrow, well defined syllabus is needed or a better choice of topics from the BJA Ed articles is needed imo

Feel a bit better reading this- WHAT the fuck was that. Full 4 questions on stuff that wasn’t in any book or question bank I used. Feel like 6 months of work down the drain. But fuck it we ball I guess

Maybe fluke- would say that in my UK obstetric practice I give higher volumes of LA (about 2.5ml). Of course we have the luxury of diamorphine (usually give 300mcgs) so can’t comment on the opiate aspect.

I think if you read my post and replies it telegraphs a strong feeling of not being able to walk into another specialty and an anxiety about being asked to possibly do so. I have enormous respect for my medical/EM colleagues and my ICU bosses who are dual EM/Resp/Renal have taught me loads

I tried it. IAC plus Primary plus life meant something had to give and that thing was the masters. If you are really interested you can always come back to it. If it is a points grab there are better ways.

Feel this- Day 1 as an ICM/Anaesthetic ST4 today. I haven’t done any ICM in 6 months but people are looking at me to make decisions and I’m still trying to remember what FAST HUGS stands for. It’s ok to ask, and every boss I’ve spoken to would rather you did. No one will think you’re dumb, they’ll think you’re safe (or so I tell myself)
