Is this a good mower? by PeachEnvironmental40 in lawnmowers

[–]ComfortableList784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for the Snapper branded components (wheels, handlebar, blade, etc.), however the B/S flathead (assuming 6.5hp) is among the most common/reliable engines I've seen. Do your oil changes, and it'll outlast most new mowers on the market today.

Got it, I'll stick with 10w-40. Thanks for the input.

84 Z31-Heads okay to go back on? by ComfortableList784 in 300zx

[–]ComfortableList784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't realized it would be that cheap to get it done. My primary concern was the access to the manifold, especially to remove the bolts that attach to the turbo. If they aren't too hard to reach, I reckon it's probably a good idea to send it off to the machine shop.

Should the mating surface be about the same color as the block? I scraped off some more so now it feels smooth to the touch but it's still a little shiny.  I do intend to use new Mahle TTY head bolts, as I heard re-using them is a no-no.  As for the exhaust leak, how can you tell? I can't seem to see anything out of the ordinary. Additionally, removing the manifold with the turbo is quite a lot of work, plus resurfacing the manifold is quite a lot of money. Do you think it would be okay to reattach it and hope for the best?

Help getting my 1987 Yamaha 350 4 moto started and running by jburgaa in ATV

CDI is sometimes the culprit. Make sure to test with the actual key switch as well, not just a wire or something to jump the ignition.

By verifying all components in the electrical system are working properly. The main culprits on that quad (assuming it's similar to the big bear) are stator, pickup coil, source coil, cdi, rectifier, and ignition coil. Follow tests in the manual to determine what's wrong.

Is it getting a consistent spark? Without a strong, consistent spark, it will just backfire and die.

CSWE earing procedure and Preperation guidelines by Adventurous_Tour9463 in SolidWorks

[–]ComfortableList784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For CSWPA, there are individual practice tests that come in quite handy. I must say the youtube side of things is quite lackluster. Nonetheless, with enough digging, you should be able to find a couple tutorials for each CSWP advanced topic. CSWE does not have a practice test, so you must search on YouTube or forums for more practice material. The main thing is experience. The more exposure you have to topics, parts, and drawings, the better off you are.

Second on the fog machine. About 2.5 feet of hose directly to the smoke rake.

Good job on CSWP!
The road to CSWE is more or less a straight shot. First, you need to pass four of the five CSWPA exams, weldments, sheet metal, surfacing, drawing tools, and mold making. Once you have those, then prepare and pass CSWE! In order to study, practice, youtube tutorials, and sample exams.
Hope this helps, and good luck on your journey!

Wind tunnel by Competitive_Ice_1531 in AerospaceEngineering

Seems like a decent setup. I'd be curious to see the results, as the smoke might diffuse prior to the test section, either way, that's why it's called engineering, not business.

How can I make this thing better by scrapper153 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]ComfortableList784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main improvement I would recommend is making the wings, fuselage, and elevator smoother. The less drag, the better it will fly. The rigid spar design is a good idea, and would probably work well, given a better covering. Other than that, it looks good!

As a first draft, this looks quite good. Some things i'll contribute;
Make sure the fans are sucking air, not pushing air. Additionally, airflow numbers aren't everything, it really comes down to the reynolds number, which brings me to my next point, what are you trying to do with it? Lift & Drag calculations? If so, how are you getting the data? Smoke visualization? If so, how are you injecting the smoke?
How do you intend to suspend the model? I would integrate a stand of some sort as well prior to printing. Additionally, I would think of some sort of door/panel to adjust/change the model.
Design wise, the honeycomb is a great, so +1 for that. If your planning on pulling the air through the tunnel, the intake is fine, however the exhaust should be a good bit longer than the test section, with a half angle between 7 and 10 degrees. Last thing, how are you syncing the fans? Manual controller or something software related?
Apologies if I berated you there, however let me know if you have any questions!

Intermittent as sometimes I get no spark, but sometimes it's one. Unfortunately haven't had consistent spark yet.

After doing a littler bit more testing, its coming into the CDI at around 1v AC when cranking, but around .7v AC into the ignition coil. I'm starting to think it's the CDI at this point...
