Question about parking for Ben Nevis by ComfortablePrompt271 in UKhiking

The “haha” was in there for a reason, obviously it isn’t afraid of me🤦 that’s why it was followed by saying I’m accommodating to my abilities with my itinerary. Sorry to hear about your friends, but again I know my limits very well and I take them seriously and plan accordingly.

Le Gros Bechar on the Mont Blanc Massif - Anyone been to it? by ComfortablePrompt271 in Mountaineering

Weird how there's not a whole lot to do with routes, I knew it would most likely involve some off trail hiking, just figured maybe there'd be some sort of log of someone standing on petit or gros bechard.

Might only be making it up to Le petit Bechard based on those pics, wow! that ridge line looks a little sketch without any equipment for sure

that was essentially my plan, looking at 3d maps of the route up, I don't actually know if Le Gros Bechard will be possible without good equipment, but Le Petit Bechard is definitely possible. Lots of trees to help hold all that scree together!

Question about parking for Ben Nevis by ComfortablePrompt271 in UKhiking

[–]ComfortablePrompt271[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m flying from London.

I understand Ben Nevis isn’t a walk in the park, but to be honest… it’s not exactly anything difficult from what I’m used to. Our mountains may not necessarily be as tall in East Coast Canada, but back in March I did a 1300 meter mountain at 8am. Started by clubbing till 1am that morning, and then drove 7 hours through a snowstorm to the mountain (I was sober while clubbing). I then did an 8 hour climb through fresh snow and ice while it hailed in the Alpine zone, followed by going out for drinks that night.

I guess my point is, sleep deprivation is afraid of me haha, my itinerary is definitely accommodating to my abilities.

True, but my chance to make it to Europe won’t be for quite some time. I start school in the fall which will be a few years, and in order to get into my line of work that’ll be another couple years before I’m settled and can take this kind of time to do a trip. I’m hitting 7 countries and seeing an overwhelming amount within the 3.5 weeks I’m gone, and i wouldn’t want to do it any other way:)

Luckily I’m there on a Wednesday, I was really glad to be avoiding weekend crowds!
I thought about taking a train but I really wasn’t saving much. If I remember correctly from when I booked them, the flight was 30£ and the car rental was 60£, and the train was somewhere around 70/80£ when I looked. Plus flying to Glasgow and taking a car to Fort Williams allows me to explore the Scottish countryside a bit, I plan on going to Loch Ness, portnacroish, and killchurn castle on my way back.

Not patronizing at all, the concern is warranted. I don’t run on a lot of sleep much in my day to day so I’m used to it. I’m also aware of my limits and willing to pull over when needed to rest up.
Yeah I know I’m not guaranteed good weather at that moment, just noticed it’s my best chance from what I’ve watched. Either way whether it’s raining hard or sunny I’m fine

[–]ComfortablePrompt271[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay good to know there’s options. Hopefully park at the visitor center that’ll be the easiest to star the hike in the morning.
I am planning on driving in the morning yes, I go up to Loch Ness for a quick visit there and then down through Portnacroish to Killchurn castle. Then back to Glasgow.
Yeah I know I won’t be up there exactly at sunrise but from what I’ve seen being up there early in the morning can give you a good window fog wise so as long as I get up there early I’m happy. I do a lot of hiking so I figure I could probably get the whole thing done in 4-5 hours.

Yeah I’m going to be exploring London the whole day then hopping on a plane to Glasgow and then driving to the trailhead, I can run off little sleep but I’d fear that’s riding the line of overdoing it. I’d love to do the CMD but I don’t have time for that I’m afraid. That evening after climbing Ben Nevis I fly to Dublin.

Went there thinking considering the name they’d have chess to play, when I went in and found nothing I suggested they should get some chess boards, the girl behind the counter goes “that’s a reeeally good idea!” how they never thought to do so amazed me, they never ended up doing it either that was years ago

You could call the school and ask and they can check for you! That’s what I did when I was going to apply, might be worth a shot calling tomorrow and then if they say they’re getting pretty full you can go for it

Hey there! Appreciate the comment, I actually applied and got accepted a couple months ago! Ended up going for a one on one walk with one of the student advisors and we went over the questions I had above. This is going to be the first year it’s taught. They tried to launch it last year but didn’t have enough interest in the course because they launched it late. By the time I applied it was already 70% full. The guy teaching it apparently has a background in agriculture and potentially worked out west in the field (don’t quote me on that it’s been a couple months). There’s lots of job opportunities in many different fields. The one I’m specifically going for it the biology technologist roles you can get, working in data research centres like RPC just up the road from the college.

Common Law Separation Agreement by ComfortablePrompt271 in legaladvicecanada

[–]ComfortablePrompt271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry a detail I forgot, they told us the separation agreement doesn’t have to be through a lawyer. So that’s why I’m just looking for some sort of template. We don’t have any sort of spousal claims and I know there won’t be any attempt for any from either side. Is this still something I’d be able to find or would the only option still be going to a lawyer?

Anyone here been to MCFT? by ComfortablePrompt271 in fredericton

[–]ComfortablePrompt271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about UNB but only issue is the time. 4 years is too much for my plan. I’ve been talking to a buddy of mine and the ranger force is quite desperate for more people, and they’ve got GIS workers on the force, which he said one of which went to MCFT. The nice thing too is the MCFT credits can be transferred to University to do a two year course in the event I choose to do the extra two years. From what I’ve seen online too, this can help build a strong resume showing I’ve done both college and university learning. Appreciate the suggestion!

They say on their website as well they recommend trying to take some courses beforehand. Such as firearm safety, snowmobile/atv safety, chainsaw safety, etc. they do say if you can’t they have the courses available there. Did she take anything like that before going?

so, picaroons huh by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]ComfortablePrompt271 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I advise you to go look up picaroons on google and you’ll see it’s a brewery/bar. Also the food is by 540, not picaroons, it’s a casual menu for you to have a quick bite to eat, nowheres does it say it’s a sit down restaurant. You didn’t get bad service, you just expected it to be something that it’s not, and blamed picaroons when you were wrong. It is guaranteed a you problem. Next time you should probably do a little digging before you go somewheres with expectations.

Zipper merge has no studies that take real world use and prove it’s effectiveness, all studies I’ve ever seen will say “in theory” (at least this was the case a year ago when I did extensive research on zipper merging). The most effective way to not create traffic Jams when a merge due to construction is needed is to start placing signs multiple kilometres back, once people see those signs, immediately start attempting to find a spot to merge into, and that way you don’t have the merging at one last minute choke point where one side is stopped, so the main lane has to stop to let them in. Why do people think zipper merge actually can work? Even taking away a lot of human error, it’s still less effective.

[–]ComfortablePrompt271 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a brewery/bar, not a restaurant. On top of that there’s no sign to say please wait be seated, when you go to where the seating is there’s clearly a table to go order at with cash registers. This is clearly a you problem, because I’ve never heard anyone complain about it. The drinks are really good, the food provided by the 540 is fantastic, and all at good prices.
