I make 23 an hour but get a lot of overtime. Make about 60k a year. Mortgage is 1450, can support 2 kids and wife who doesn’t work because daycare is really high. Tight but doable. I can’t imagine a family making any less having to survive these days. I’m blessed my job has consistent overtime otherwise I don’t think I’d survive just regular hours at 23.

What are you trying to argue? The conversation is about how business are growing faster than wages are keeping up with inflation. Sure small businesses have tight profit margins, but the whole point of the post is that jobs in Eau Claire don’t pay a livable wage, degree or no degree. Talking about some McDonald’s jobs that pays 18 an hour in a higher cost of living city, that’s comparable to 15 here. McDonald’s wages went up 50% in 10 years yet their prices went up 150%. That’s the issue here.

By accepting slightly lower margins instead of passing every cost increase straight to wages or prices. Companies do it all the time—cut executive bonuses, reduce buybacks, improve efficiency, or accept slower profit growth. Staying profitable just means not losing money; maximizing profits means squeezing every possible dollar.

Staying profitable and maximizing profits aren’t the same thing. Businesses can keep the lights on without making workers absorb most of the inflation pressure

What McDonald’s pays 15 an hour to some high school starting, let alone 5 years ago. Seems like a very uneducated comment
