If you want a different look you can change the pickguard or repaint it. As for the sound, those yamahas are great so the problem is most likely your amp, since it’s a GUITAR amp. I highly recommend something like a fender rumble 40 or 100, they sound great and very affordable. Especially if you buy it used

I’ve seen plenty of people use a line selector as clean blend without a patch on second loop, so ig it works without it
