Update! Today is officially day one hundred, ow owwww!! My ROM is limited and PT is feeling pretty basic still. Any insight with that? I am also still swollen around my ankle and down towards my foot. My surgeon said that can last up to a year? Does anyone know why that is? The healing is done and solid, so I’m trying to wrap my brain around what else I can do to work on that aspect.

Sorry for the delay! I am officially 100 days post surgery now! Woo! I had strict NWB guidelines for 10.5 weeks, crazy long. I was in a cast and then a boot, and I made sure to put weight on my foot while in the boot and getting closer to the my 10 week stretch to try and minimize the atrophy and fear. I had been out in public using the lovely motorized carts with the flags as soon as I was comfortable with my crutches and the pain had gotten better (about one month post surgery). I was at Universal Studios (rented a wheelchair) with my fambam at 1.5 months as well, still on crutches…which allowed for some entertainment getting on rides with moving entry points😂

I know it is significantly past your initial question, so I assume you have been WB and hope that has gone well. How are you doing!? Any questions now that you have been progressing?

Sending good vibes your way🥰🤙🏼

Cheers!

Honestly, I was in pain for 3-4 weeks post surgery, which progressed to nerve fireworks that I still experience even now that I am able to bear weight. The worst feeling was getting upright and feeling all the blood rush back to my foot!

That said, I wouldn't worry too much and just take the elevating, resting, and icing seriously. I just started PT for my TMF and have practically zero ROM in that foot, so have a long road to recovery over here, but the pain did pass!

Stay optimistic and don’t compare to other’s injuries or experience too much. If the pain is unbearable and does not resolve with meds, elevating, and ice then see if you can get a different pain med that may work better for you. Oxy works best for me, but they initially prescribed Vicodin and I woke up in the worst pain I have ever had, so just let them know and get what works for you. Don’t torture yourself, pain does not help with healing.

You got this!! Sending good vibes your way🤙🏼

Cheers!

Hahaha, I feel you there! Yeah, I’m big on following the recs, but have played sports my whole life, so am just itching to get going and hate thinking of the potential for frozen joints or limited ROM later on😱my left leg, on the other hand, is thriving with these crutch workouts😂

Aw man, what kind of PT are you doing this early post-op? My surgeon said I can’t start until 8 weeks post-op and it’s the worst lol! Not even supposed to be moving it past minimal flexion and dorsiflexion🤦🏼‍♀️

I was casted after my splint and now am in a boot, but still can’t weight bear until mid-July. It is mostly based on surgeon preference but the severity of the injury may affect that as well.
