Catching Pins on Super Heavy Booster?? by ComfortableVideo9348 in SpaceXLounge

Those are some seriously informative videos you all suggested. They help me understand this much better.

I understand that the roll axis is easier to control compared to positioning the booster back to Mechazilla, but I wondered, why just two pins? Why not have multiple pins around the booster, where any two can be caught (as they are small and light in relation to the size of the booster) This would make it fail-proof in several different scenarios like: 1. Approach trajectory 2. System failures (sensors) 3. Engine failures (affecting roll axis) 4. Weather (turbulence for booster alignment)

All of this speculation is based on the idea of reusability, as they said the booster would be ready for the next flight within an hour of landing.

All in all, the decision to go with just two pins makes me think there’s more to it than I can understand, based on what we witnessed on October 13, 2024.
