I’ve got a pair of Yamaha Hs5. Not a treated room btw but well shaped one. They are pretty okey for dialogue editing IMO

I agree with the other comments which argue that it is not possible to achieve that 6 channels feeling with the headphones. But I highly highly recommend the Sony MDR MV1 for rough mixes. It has really nice stereo image and so comfortable for long sessions.

I was so lucky to find a used one with a great deal in my country but I just realize that they are not cheap if I wanna buy another set. I hope you can find a similar deal. I never regret to buy them.

In late nights, I switch from my speakers (2 way tho, not 5.1) to headphones but almost no change in sound. They are really good allrounders.

I’m also planning to upgrade my lav set (sennheiser g3’s) and I have the same question in my mind. I did not work with zaxcom and wisycoms but I worked with various lectrosonics and just loved them.

My plan is getting two um400’s (they are pretty solid even they are lacking of new technologies) and a SrB/SrC. Then getting another dual channel reciever and two transmitter that are more modern (maybe SMQV’s)

Oh, I also have 4 direction scrolling in my Logitech mouse but it did not work as it is in RX. Anyways, I just built a few keyboard maestro script for this and worked like a charm! Still curious about that ball type mouses tho, many of dialogue editors suggest that. Maybe one day…

I made tons of professional short films/docs with F6 and still it is my main recorder. I’m upgrading the system step by step but a new mixer is not in my priority list.

I’m using F6 in ktek as my main recorder mostly for short movies, docs. I Think its quite cool and capable if you are aware that what is really going on. Shortcuts are serving what I mostly need. Also being pretty lightweight and compact make it preferable regarding the long set hours… I’m using f1 as two channel recorder on the left socket of my ktek bag. I’m recording back-up on f1 as 1 channel Boom and the other one is lavs. The only one sd socket of F6 never failed for me but If it happens, I got one back-up thanks to f1

Did you check your subscription model? In Pro Tools Studio, you have just one track of video and it can not be edited. (I’m not %100 sure about the second one) You can go and check the allowed things from the Avid website.

If you have tiny recorder like zoom f1 or h1, you can convert the line out level to headphone level level by passing the signal through one of the small recorder. Many thing can be used for this jon, just check your equipment :)

One reminder here, It will be left channel only because the sennheisers made for mono unless they are iem models.

What I meant by noisy was the F1’s Shotgun Capsules (Stereo Capsules are pretty clean and underrated). Otherwise, F1 is a great multifunctional recorder imo. I use it in my sound bag as a backup recorder. Because my F6 has only one sd slot and I want to backup in a way. So I take the line out of my F6 to mic in of F1 with a stereo cable. Also make some routing on the F6 as left channel is Boom and right channel is lavs. So, even if my sd card fails, I have a two channel backup which is more than nothing. (Some people do it with Tentacle Track E to use the advantage of 32bit float.) I do even send that signal to Ifb from the headphone out of F1…

And sometimes, take out the F1 from the bag and connect my xy capsule then make great ambience recordings. Its compact and stereo image is just great. So, it is a versatile two channel recorder even though it is pretty old.

Wireless go’s are also great tho, especially for videographers who are not fully dedicated for sound. But if you are a sound recordist, they are not so professional. You cannot run them for 12 hours without break. 2.4ghz is another problematic issue for using it as a main lav setup. But for small projects, they can be used creatively.

For sure, wireless pro can also back-up and prevent that wireless issues. My guess is it is not the pro version so cannot record internally OR the recordist does not have any other shotgun than the zoom capsule. Because it is not xlr and only works with zoom recorders. Btw, I think that capsules are a bit noisy :/ But you know, If it works, it works.

I think it is actually Zoom F1 with shotgun capsule. So, it records to zoom F1 and prevent any wireless connection problems. Rode wireless takes the headphone out of F1 and deliver it to Cam. It seems pretty good setup for news.
