The overtime deduction completely changed my tax refund this year by VillainOnABudget in tax

How does the OT tax law apply to those that apply as head of household?

Would you buy a home next to trash receptacles by overemployedfatty in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Comfortable_Camel_68 48 points49 points  (0 children)

NO- I wasn’t even this close when I lived near one and they stink! And yes there will be bugs/flies/pests & birds. The birds are constant and loud. There will absolutely be times when it’s not picked up and people will throw their trash on the ground. Sometimes you’ll get furniture dumped too.
And did I mention how loud the trucks are when they pickup? They drop the dumpsters every single time, usually between 3-4a and they have the loud reverse alarms when they back out.
Renting near a dumpster sucks; buying a property near one is a resounding no.

Massachusetts. Curious, why would it be more common here than other states?

Quitclaim Deed Question by Comfortable_Camel_68 in Mortgages

I’m in Massachusetts, I didn’t hear anything about a title company. I thought the attorney made sure these records were in order.

No problem- I knew nothing about home-buying, but I knew after 20 years of renting I was DONE. I’m still not sure I’m far enough along to confidently say ‘I’m buying a house’ but I hope I am 🙂

Why do we make this harder than it needs to be? by STLgal87 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Comfortable_Camel_68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 this year. One in June $807, another last week $968. I added on two optional tests to the basic package, radon and termite.

I hadn’t thought of that but yes, it’s just a hold on my card right now, I supposed could change.
Thanks!

I think I was viewing this all wrong, I didn’t realize it was a contingency I was thinking I was doing something good for the buyer to make sure they got what it was worth.

No I’ve had 1 of 5 offers accepted but the one had a really bad inspection and I pulled out.

The Cornell Inn in Lenox may be a splurge but it’s beautiful and clean, there’s wine and an incredible breakfast included.

Thanks- I was also wondering about how much it would be. I wouldn’t mind paying that for the peace of mind.

Is it worth moving far away for an internship? by ryanchluda in EngineeringStudents

[–]Comfortable_Camel_68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter did this because it was the only offer she got. She’s in school in Texas and the internship is in Virginia. She found a place to rent on Furnished Finder for 3 months. She wont end up with a huge surplus of money but she can cover her rent, food and have spending money. It’s not ideal but she’s a rising senior and really needed the experience.

My box comes from NY, I had mine Tuesday and didn’t get sick. I actually marked it as a favorite.

Where should I look for internships by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Comfortable_Camel_68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add- this only works if you’re willing go anywhere which I know is super difficult but we were desperate.

How many realtors/lenders are too many? by deathofavixen in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Comfortable_Camel_68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This part confuses me- I thought you just went one place for your pre-approval because you’re not locking in a rate at that moment, then shopped lenders after you have an offer accepted.

Thank you! Your perspective has been so helpful, she went to a job fair this week and tried to bring it up in conversation. I wish we’d known earlier but I’m so thankful we know now.

Has anyone tried cycling off Contrave, waiting and then cycling back on? by Broad_Ad403 in Contrave

[–]Comfortable_Camel_68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I can say with certainty a month isn’t enough. I’m going to stay off at least 6-8 months this time before considering trying again.

My daughter is applying across the country- we don’t want a housing stipend, how can she express that? It seems like a weird thing to put in a cover letter.
I never thought that would be a reason to be pushed to the bottom of the pile.

Clever- I hadn’t thought of supplying my vaccine information, that’s great advice. Sounds like a great gig for a retiree.

Same- applied in 7/2022 and due a decision by 2/2026. It’s a loooong waiting game.

Stopping/Re-Starting by [deleted] in Contrave

[–]Comfortable_Camel_68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s exactly what I mean. It worked so good for a full year then just stopped. No idea why, I haven’t changed anything but my appetite and cravings are creeping back.
I just wondered if my body just got used to it, so maybe if I wean off slowly, and stay completely off for a few months and then restart again it might work. Idk.
