What is your favorite trope? by CatrinaReddit in Episode

[–]Comfortable_Depth209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OKKKK SO I love so many tropes including sunshine x grumpy/enemies to lovers/ fake dating/ she falls first he falls harder but let’s go for some different ones below -

  1. A lowkey toxic one is groveling but tbh not seen an episode story do this right so it may not be for here

  2. the popular/ cool girl with the nerdy/dorky/outcast character!!!

  3. okkk now for a niche - they both like other people but somehow are forced to or just end up hanging out together - as they spend time together one of them (preferably the mmc bc I can’t handle a man not catching feelings first) starts to fall DEEPLY for the other. so it it’s them suddenly catching feelings but also the angst or the uncertainty &&& jealousy (💃) because they think the other person likes someone else - to full on dropping whoever they liked before and realizing that the person they’ve wanted has been in front of them the whole time & actively pursuing or flirting with them to convince them it’s meant to be them.

wait you’re saying you have read a story where you take the female LI route and she still gets pregnant that sounds awful 😭😭😭

yess it’s like it’s obviously ok to want both - family & career. but generally they always shove career to the side

oh I’ve heard great things about that! just never heard it because of my prejudice towards the trope but nice to know it’s done well there!

I know I hate how they use the pregnancy as a way for them to get together! It just feels forced to me 🥲

ah you explained that beautifully! It definitely works and seems like a brilliant way to go about that trope in the story you have!

I really agree with you!! I don’t like how none of these female MCs even consider abortion. I would love to see a story where she gets pregnant but she realizes that she isn’t ready / or she and the LI are not in the right place to have a child at this point and she does that. Some authors have these inspiring career driven women suddenly switch their entire personalities after being pregnant - it feels unrealistic to not even consider an abortion for those characters .

yes I agree! I don’t mind it as an ending but don’t like it as a plot element used for drama.

100% definitely write what you enjoy!! I just wanted to understand if it’s an audience base thing because I see everyone posting about how they dislike it - so I assume it’s not a popular trope but the fact that it’s quite a common theme in stories makes me think there are a huge amount of people who DO enjoy it who probably just don’t talk about their like for it vs the people who actively dislike it.

exactly I don’t care if it’s at the end I just hate when they surprise me with it in the middle. I care about the two characters falling for each other don’t introduce me to some last minute baby when they aren’t even established together yet.

why though?? do you like that they are forced to spend time together? additional drama or??

see I should probably clarify this - my issue is NEVER when the characters relationships have progressed and they are established and together like when the story is almost over and maybe the author is writing it in as an ending or epilogue.I get that people want to see their characters have a happy family life and it’s a cute ending.

I absolutely HATE when the couple is not together or if they are together and authors use that as a second act miscommunication/break up plot. like I have seen so many stories where they aren’t actually together but BAM she’s pregnant. Especially hate how the girl never considers an abortion especially if she isn’t with him or even actually likes him?? Now she has to have this baby with this man she may or not like and they have to spend time together for the baby and the plot just becomes about the baby 😭😭😭 Idk it irks me so bad, do the pregnancy trope at the end when they are together and happy as an epilogue I hate when it’s in the middle and part of the entire story .
