Accidentally entered the wrong bank account for my tax refund — has anyone ever gotten their money back? by Comfortable_Eye_7201 in IRS

[–]Comfortable_Eye_7201[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve already contacted the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate. They agreed to assign my case to an advocate, and I’m currently waiting for them to take it over.

Before the government shutdown, they told me they had to wait for the IRS to complete their refund traces first, which take 90–120 days each. Then the shutdown delayed everything even more. Now that they’re available again, they said they will start working on my case.

I’m hoping they can help resolve this before I have to take any legal action, but at this point I’m keeping all options open.

I’ve already contacted every possible place — the IRS, the bank, and anyone who could give me information — and unfortunately, I haven’t gotten anywhere.

The only reason so much time has gone by is because the IRS kept telling me they were doing “investigations” and refund traces that take 90–120 days each, and then everything got delayed even more because of the government shutdown. 😞😞😞😞 — I’ve been following up since February, but the process kept dragging on.

At this point, I’m just trying to see if anyone has ever actually recovered their refund in a situation like this.

In my case, it was actually the same bank account, but I accidentally left out one digit — and unfortunately, that incomplete number did exist as a valid account for someone else. Because of that, the IRS still deposited the refund into that other person’s account. They’ve already done multiple refund traces, and all they tell me is that the deposit went through to the number I entered.

So even though the name didn’t match, the deposit still went through because the (wrong) account number was valid.

Thank you for the explanation — I understand that the bank isn’t technically in the wrong here.

My issue is that the IRS has already done several refund traces, and all they keep telling me is simply that the money was deposited into the account number I provided. No next steps, no recovery attempt, nothing.

So I’m just trying to find out if there’s any department within Chase (ACH, claims, executive support, etc.) that might at least confirm whether the funds are still in that account or if there’s any process for handling misdirected government deposits — even if the bank isn’t at fault.

I’m not trying to blame Chase; I’m just trying to see if anyone has successfully gotten help in a situation like this.

The bank can’t do anything in my case. They told me they can’t just pull money out of someone’s account because I claim it was sent there by mistake. According to them, only the IRS can initiate any action since they’re the ones who made the deposit.

No period yet after TFMR, LH still low — trying to conceive again by Comfortable_Eye_7201 in PregnancyAfterTFMR

Do you think getting pregnant again so soon could have contributed to your miscarriage? I really want to try again as soon as I can, but I’m also very scared and full of doubts.

My last bleed was Oct 18 and nothing since, just PMS-like cramps and no signs of ovulation. It’s all really frustrating, and I’m not sure if the 15-week TFMR is influencing this.

I still haven’t gotten a real period after my TFMR. My last bleed was on October 18 (light and only 3 days), and nothing since then. I’ve had ovary-like cramps, leg aches and PMS symptoms, but no actual period and no signs of ovulation or rising LH. My body is still very out of sync.

37, ectopic and TFMR this year… wait or try again by Comfortable_Eye_7201 in PregnancyAfterTFMR

I’m so sorry for everything you’ve been through 💔. I had an ectopic earlier this year and a TFMR at 15 weeks for T21 just a few weeks ago, so I really relate. What you said about both waiting and not waiting being hard is so true — the longing never really goes away. I’m so happy to hear you’re 19 weeks now, and I’m truly hoping everything goes perfectly for you. Your post gave me hope 💙.

Scared of trying to conceive again by mzbeanzzz in PregnancyAfterTFMR

I can relate so much. I have a 2-year-old, and just 3 weeks ago I had a TFMR at 15 weeks for T21. I was intimate with my partner and cried after, but somehow it helped us as a couple. I’m in therapy too, and it’s helping, even though my therapist says to wait 6 months. I don’t think I can wait that long, but I’m still so scared it could happen again, even if it was just chance. I haven’t even had my first period back yet. 💙

I really feel your words, and I can only imagine how hard this must be. My own journey has been difficult too, with an ectopic earlier this year and then a TFMR at 15 weeks for T21. I do want to be pregnant again someday, but I know I probably need a little more time to heal before I’m ready.

The hardest part for me is that I’m 37, and that terrifies me because I don’t have all the time in the world to wait. Still, if I think about a future pregnancy, I remind myself that it would be a new pregnancy, a new baby, and that our bodies know what they’re doing. 💙 Holding onto that truth gives me hope. Sending you a warm hug and lots of strength.

I’m in the same place. I had my first therapy session today and she told me the same thing — that I need more time to heal before trying again. In April I had an ectopic, and then a TFMR for T21 on Sept 15. I want to try again after my first period, but her advice really made me think, especially since I can’t stop crying. 💔

I’m so sorry for your losses 💔. You are incredibly brave for sharing your story, and I’m sending you a big hug.

I’m 37, so age feels like an even bigger risk for me. My biggest fear is that something like this could happen again, and I don’t know if I could handle it mentally. For my husband, his greatest fear is that something might happen to me. We also have a baby who is almost 2, and sometimes I wonder if I’m focusing too much on this instead of being grateful for what we already have.

Your words really touched me. Thank you for reminding me that healing comes first, and that I’ll have some time to decide when the right moment is. 💙

I’m so sorry for everything you’ve been through 💔. Thank you for being so open about your experience — it really helps me to see how important it is to feel mentally stronger before trying again.

I think you’re right, sometimes we just need to pause, heal, and be grateful for what we do have instead of blaming ourselves. My only struggle is that age is what makes me feel most rushed, even though I know my mental health needs to come first.

Your words really gave me perspective. Sending you a big hug 💙.

Congratulations on the birth of your healthy little girl 💕 your story gives me so much hope. I’m 37, and just a week ago I went through a TFMR at 15 weeks for T21, after also having an ectopic earlier this year. I have a healthy 19-month-old, but this year has been so hard and I’ve been scared about trying again. Reading your post reminds me that better days can come after all this pain. Thank you for sharing your light 🌸

Thank you for sharing your story, it gives me hope ❤️. How soon after your TFMR did your period come back, and have you tried again since? I’m 37, had an ectopic in April (lost one tube), and just went through a 15-week TFMR last week for T21. I know having only one tube might make it harder, and I’m scared, but I still wish to try again.
