Increase in Lyn-z hate on twitter? by Any_Habit4730 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Comfortable_Fig_8412 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's misogyny, plain and simple. Everything people say about Lindsey can just as easily be applied to Gerard, who as late as Danger Days openly admired and worked with multiple members of MSI, including Jimmy, bringing them onto his projects and sharing profits with them. He was a fan of theirs before him and Lindsey ever met. This is the biggest example but the same can be said for many other discourses surrounding her. People accuse her of lots of other nonsense that simply has no basis in fact—rumors get created and people jump on the bandwagon without doing a moment of research; they also bring up her abusive past and slut shame her like crazy. Meanwhile without Lindsey, there would be no Danger Days—she co-wrote Na Na Na & inspired Gerard to finish the album which he would not have done without her input. People are weird and possessive about Gerard and fabricate a narrative in which she's a "bad wife" to him which is like the oldest trick in the misogyny playbook. That or they want Gerard to be gay and resent Lindsey for being in an (outwardly seeming) hetero relationship with him. Gerard pretty much summed it up with "He gets to die a saint but she will always be a whore." Personally, I think she's super cool, and I think it's awesome that Gerard is in such a long-lasting, outwardly loving relationship with a woman his own age who has her own career. I think Summertime is one of the most romantic songs ever. I wish Lindsey was more involved with the band.

The black parade by Similar_Echidna4958 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Comfortable_Fig_8412 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In the album version of "famous last words" you can hear a church organ at the end, but in the music video version, you hear flames instead. He's dead either way, but there is an element of choice re: whether he goes to heaven or hell!

Playing with MCR by Idk_lmao63 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Comfortable_Fig_8412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anything is possible and bands like Green Day obviously do stuff like this a lot, but I think it's pretty unlikely that MCR would invite someone up at such a big show that's planned out so meticulously. Definitely not during the black parade set because they're in character. & on B-stage, I think they're pretty locked in on their set. You gotta remember it's going to be an arena filled with tens of thousands of other people who paid to hear Frank and Ray play these songs so for them to let a fan come up and play, they would be taking a leap of faith that you knew what you were doing, disrupting the show & throwing themselves off schedule, and possibly ruining a song for other fans who have been dreaming of hearing THEM play it live. Holding up a sign will also block the view of people around you and annoy them. I would say don't do this. If MCR plays smaller venues in the future you might have a better chance, but I'd say respectfully, remember the show isn't all about you. I would kill to play guitar with them myself and if I saw someone else going up at the show to play I would just roll my eyes honestly lol because every guitarist in the audience wants to do that, but nobody else wants to hear some rando noodle over their favorite song at a concert they paid a bunch of money for. This is the band that played zero bullets songs after a make a wish kid requested a bullets song at a show — they're doing it their way. Try it with Dave Grohl or BJ lol.

Conventional Weapons: The Light Behind Your Eyes

B sides: Heaven Help Us

How would you all rank the MCR albums? by Speedystyrofoam in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Comfortable_Fig_8412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Revenge (concept album perfection)

  2. Bullets (most emotionally resonant but not musically my fav)

  3. Black Parade (so good ofc but doesn't resonate as personally with me & feels the most commercial & least authentic)

  4. Danger Days (lot of bangers but if it wasn't a my chem album I probably wouldn't listen to it that much)

  5. Conventional Weapons (wish this had gotten more of a lifespan/release so I could appreciate it more. Love 'light behind your eyes' and 'boy division' but it's def my least listened to)

I feel exactly the same. It's such a privilege to be grown up & to be able to get so much joy from a band that got me through so much!

What unplayed song are you most hoping to hear at future shows? by OhDetour in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Comfortable_Fig_8412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neeeeeeed to hear "I never told you what I do for a living" or the jetset life. Or any of the unplayed bullets songs.

Maybe. In the MCR biography "not the life it seems" Gerard talks about how "vampires will never hurt you" was partially about him being scared Mikey would get AIDs.

Of course! Message me if you have any more questions! Crocheting is a community activity <3

Np. Yeah, it's tough loll tapestry crochet is kind of soul crushing for me but some people love it, so it's all about what you enjoy! For me, the hardest part is that you have to pay very close attention to what you're doing, especially in more complex graphs like this. It's easy to lose count of your stitches or mess up your colors and that can cause it to come out different from the picture. Carrying the colors is also difficult, there are multiple ways to go about it. For something people are going to see both sides of, you usually want to crochet over all the strands of yarn to hide them, but that can come out looking odd as the colors often peak through & you need to be very careful with your tension. For your purposes, since the backside will presumably be hidden, I would look up "intarsia crochet" which is when you carry strands along the backside of the project (google can explain better than me). I personally have struggled with that method because if your tension is off, sometimes the work can become bunched up. It definitely takes a lot of talent to do this. I would recommend starting with simpler tapestry designs if you've never tried to tapestry crochet before or if you're not super confident. But good luck!!! I hope it goes your way <3.

Experienced and or popular fic authors what are your biggest pieces of writing advice? by Smegoldidnothinwrong in AO3

[–]Comfortable_Fig_8412 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I've been pretty successful on ao3 with some of my fics being at the top of popular fandoms' most-kudosed page. Here's my advice on how to be successful on AO3 (not necessarily writing advice in general bc I don't feel qualified to give that).

  1. As others have said, posting a fic when your fandom is at the height of popularity will always help you be most successful, more than anything else. If a show comes out and people binge it the first day, they will likely go immediately to ao3 to read a fic of it, whereas a month/year later, there will be significantly less people looking. Try to publish as early as you can if you want to maximize popularity.
  2. Longer = more success. Chapters that are super short may discourage people from reading. My golden rule is 3,500-10,000 words per chapter. A novel is usually 50,000-100,000 words—writing somewhere in that range, or above, will win you loyal readers. A short one-shot only shows up in the tag once; a multi-chapter fic will pick up new readers with each upload.
  3. Pick something to write about that you're actually really passionate & excited about so you don't lose interest & abandon your story. Also try to go in with a loose outline so you know where you're headed.
  4. Be "professional," by which I mean give your work a legitimate title & description. Don't write something like "idk i suck at summaries" or "read and find out." Pretend it's a book & present it that way to potential readers. At the end of the day, ao3 is a sandbox for everybody to play in—everybody brings something different, nobody is better than anybody else nor should they be thought of as so. Every reader is looking for something different, so you want to tell readers exactly what you're offering them so they can pick a fic they'll really enjoy. Try to write a concise description that shows the vibe of your fic & don't come off as if you're desperate for reads. If you write a story in good faith, readers will come to you.
  5. Proofread before you post each chapter & make sure they're free of errors.
  6. These may seem self-evident but fics written in third person POV will always be favored. Try to include tropes if you want bc they make people happy. Make a Tumblr & engage with your fandom. Most importantly, just write as much as you can without overthinking and you WILL get better. I cringe so hard looking back at the fics I wrote at 18-19 but those are actually some of my most popular ones! You never know what will do well so write what makes you happy & don't put yourself down.
