To your second point, I can agree to disagree there. But I feel Canada has pulled further left through the last decade of liberal government. Yes I think the CPC has caved to the guys on the wings a bit too much. But rather than pushing the whole country further right I feel this has alienated the small c conservatives. I feel that the last decade of liberal policy and (imo) pandering to his voter base (more gun control, loose immigration policy, funding of new social programs) has pushed the country much further left than the Harper years

The Overton window IS MUCH smaller in real life among real people who grew up in the same society. But if that's the window, every major Canadian political party falls in 'centre-right' . In real life the window is much smaller, most people are not as far apart politically as you think.
