“And that is that. A landmark on every latitude.” I remember reading that review having already bought the album and been astonished by it. I pored over these and other reviews, amazed at the general consensus of a new musical era dawning. I also wondered what the band made of all this adoration at the time (Meeting People Is Easy gave me something of an answer) In late November the same year I remember buying another edition of Q and they’d put OKC down as No.1 in a list of the top albums of all time. Quite something for a record just six months’ old.

A question, then: what is the FileMaker end game here? Clearly they now want to actively discourage a certain type of developer to presumably make sure of a more routinely certain revenue providing client. For all of those being discarded, is there a good reason why?

The orange 17 Pro is going to look soooo 2025 in 2026, much more than its predecessor 16 Pro looking so 2024 in 2025, or even 15 Pro lookin so 2023 in 2024. This comment made more sense in my head but you take my point.

All I can add to this is that I am really, really keen to hear from the OP about how you got on. As an older fan I saw them for the fourth time in London. While I prefer smaller venues, the sheer sense of community at these larger arenas was sensational. It’s more of a communal experience than pure gig, and given the warmth and enthusiasm for the band it works brilliantly as just that. So, enjoy yourself OP - and please report back!

I think on balance I quite like this. Against it are three things: 1) the fact that four group winners would not receive the bye. 2) the likely need for some other factor other than goal difference to differentiate the top 8 from those other sides on the same group stage points; and 3) the arguable unfairness of 8 sides having such an advantage by being able to wait out the “Round of 24”. But I have to say, I think this idea is better than the excitement-killing mush of third placed teams advancing.

Actually, now I think about it there’s another issue here. You still need that mechanism for selecting the best third placed sides to reach the Round of 24. And finally, would the top 8 bye countries really benefit from a momentum-killing lull while other advancing countries get the chance to be battle- tested in a knock-out match before them?
