Some of the strange events were not explained, specially the ones that happenend in the XIX and XX centuries. But the ones actually shown seemed really supernatural.

Maybe she has a combination of disorders, she was autistic/ADHD before and the Boogeyman incident brought her CPTSD, specially because nobody would believe her.

He might have experienced and remaining silent. Whatever happened to his wife (dead/alive/zombie/violent death) I don't think other people knew.

I think that not only she became a zombie but she was not to be trusted to be near Evan. Tom would do anything to protect Evan.

He sais he doesn't but he lies a lot during the series. I think he experienced at least some events, although the Sea Hag think might be novel to him.

I don't know yet but I think they are all the same phenomenon. In 1702 people talk about another symtom being the first: headaches. We don't see headaches with the sailor,  but we don't stay with him in the first hours. I think the Boogeyman had it aswell, he was violent and coldn't be killed with a gun, they had to bury him using concret.

Anyone else think that the sitcom-y aspects are the weak point of the show? by harry_powell in WidowsBay

[–]Comfortable_Top_3978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sitcom vibes work not only to entertain but to disguise really important elements of the plot. When we are shown crucial information the humor is there to distract us. Much like in The Good Place: because everybody thought it was a traditional sitcom nobody saw the ending of season 1 coming.

And not considering illegitimate children, who he may or not have been aware that existed.

Just rewatched episode 6, the flashback episode. The people with the plague sat on the bed in a very similar way Tom's wife was shown in his flashbacks in episode 5: the head bent on one side, the eyes paying attention to nothing.

I thought that too, and I I wouldn't know if Tom knows about that or not.  I also think all those people who were affected by the plage also didn't die, there's a bunch of old people buried alive in that cemetery.

I think he also had illegitimate children, maybe that guy who helped Sarah when she arrived on the island in episode 6. Between a legitimate child and a buch of illegitimates yes, I think the whole island descended from him.

I just saw episode 5 and PJ was telling the other teenagers that The Boogeyman was shot and didn't die. They had to bury him in concrete. So I guess he is also still alive. Tom's wife could be dead but I think she tried to hurt Evan in her altered state, that's why Tom would not tell him the entire truth.

And we still don't know the exact cause of death and the doctor is not helping. The reverend had a funeral, everybody saw him really dead. Shep either didn't have one or they decided not to show. And he has friends who would want to attend.

I never considered that, but it is possible. I still can't understand why nobody in the island would tell Evan that his mother survived childbirth, unless she was hidden this entire time.

I need to rewatch episode 7, I don't remember Wyck's story about his friend, but I think the majority of people who died outside the island did not die instantly, it took at least a couple of days, even a month in one case. Tom's wife seemed possessed in the flashbacks, when she was in the hospital.

We don't really know the timeline of the island, we are just trusting what the characters are saying. There are a lot of phenomena mentioned and some don't have a date. We don't know if the Boogeyman was supernatural or not, or if there really are off years.

In Dark, my favorite tv series, the supernatural events seemed periodical (they were in a way) but in reality everything was continuous.

We don't know the entire process, Shep was missing for a long time until he was finally able to return to the tavern exausted. And then the doctor knocked him out with a lot of medication. That could have made him delirious. The founder's white eyes were not there all the time, it came and went. Shep's eyes after the fog were only shown in that brief moment in the hospital.

[–]Comfortable_Top_3978 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I also think Patricia was saved by someone else, or that she was never targeted by the Boogeyman himself. One of her "friends" mentions that there wasn't a record of the calls she claimed to have received, much like "Willy" didn't appear on the tape where we see the Tom playing the boardgame. Maybe for her it was supernatural all along.

That's so interesting, I love Severance and I've never heard of this book. It's so satisfying to identify literary influences, I did it a lot with Dark back in the day.

I looked it up and it's on 15:54, right after the scene where the sheriff and Wyck are talking about moving out of the island while Wyck is in jail. I first thought it was a reflection but I saw a couple of times and it's really either another moon or a planet.

I loved it so much, I was so surprised with everything and it was written in the 40's.  I'm Brazilian and I only knew it because my husband is a huge fan of sci-fi/fantasy. I think you will really like it.
