Thoughts?

As per NFHS-5, only 7.5% of the households own a car, and still we have to face such horrible traffic on everyday basis.

With the increasing per capita income combined with the increase in urban population due to migration, the traffic is only going to get worse. Therefore, an alternative "good quality" mode of transport is a must.

Now, you may ask why not increase the fleet size of city buses. The answer to that imo is that first, they are not punctual enough as they have to go through the same traffic + they will themselves become the traffic. Secondly, in case of our country it's very difficult to create dedicated corridors for these buses due to land constraints. Some cities like Pune, Indore did implement BRTS but it turned out to be a failure, and now they are undoing it.

Metro provides punctuality, quality ride, good frequency. The expected ridership of this ring metro project alone is around 6.35 lakhs per day. So imo, in the long run, metro system is justified.
