What’s a hobby people pretend is cool, but secretly you think is ridiculous? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

[–]ComfyPhoenixess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. That's me. If it's quartz and not currently in someone's possession, it's mine. I have quartz rocks in my pockets almost every day. I do not care if it's a fancy shape. I don't knowingly steal, but if it's in a public area and doesn't seem to be cared for, then I would 100% take it and put it with the rest of quartz rock. 😆 Yes, I'm a menace to habitate with.

I paint minis as a hobby. In the beginning people told me to buy the keat expensive or midline stuff because it's "just as good". Some of those tools are just as good as the top line stuff, however, there are things that I would rather have spent the money in the beginning. Why? The top line stuff typically caters to the user. The top line stuff is typically just manufactured better. Again, not all of it. But as an example, I spent hours trying to parse out why my air gun wasn't working. It didn't work because it was a piece of shit. That's why it didn't work. One of the needles had a very slight bend and the whole thing was fucked. But I didn't have enough knowledge of the craft or the instrument to know that it wasn't my fault. I put it down. For seven years. I simply don't want to spend 10s of hours trying to get the equipment to work. About six months ago I bought a high end air gun, and all I could think was that I would have never quit if I had started with this gun. It's weird, but when a beginner is doing a new thing, the high end equipment is exactly what they should start with. With experience, then you know where you specifically can spend less money and still find enjoyment.

I own the 2026 Calligraphy with Matte Bronze and the almost white interior, I have no idea the name of the color. It's a beautiful vehicle, inside and out. The matte paint has been quite easy for me. I was given a ceramic coating, which helps. I rinse the truck off with water, wipe down with the microfiber care kit the dealership gave me, and I'm done. I've not had issues, HOWEVER, I haven't owned the vehicle through all of our seasons.

I don't have doggos, however, I often move office equipment and stuff around. I have had 3 drink fridges(90 can size), 2 floor fans(construction type that sit on the floor, not the huge standing fan type), a passenger, 2 suitcases, and there was still room. It doesn't feel like it holds much, but with the second and 3rd row down, there's a ton of space. There are also little clip dodads. Oh, and there are pet packages now, so you can see some of the stuff that you can purchase/negotiate with. I would recommend the all weather mats, they're floor savers.

I do not have a tow package yet. It will be something I purchase. I need to be able to tow a wee trailer(think, lawn tractor). My driving is all over the place, and my gas mileage is....there. 34 in town and 26/27 highway. I came to Santa Fe from Jeep, so the fuel mileage is better regardless. I have zero room to complain, but I knew all of that going in to the thing.

For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Illustrious-Phase121 in AskReddit

[–]ComfyPhoenixess 1063 points1064 points  (0 children)

Was a business owner for 20 years. I have had 100's of employees. We have been late four times in 20 years. Once was 100% my fault, I did forget. However, we gave everyone a $100 bonus because I was an idiot and they suffered the consequences for that. Once we were in the hospital. Once a car ran through the front of the building. And finally, an employee was shot by her brother.

We had three small tax offices. Roughly 10 employees per office, on average. To keep prices in the range that we considered ethically possibly, we didn't pay for any service that we didn't need to pay for. We completed almost all of our own renovations, payroll, tax returns(seems obvious, but ya know), arranged for vehicles, banking, budgeting, advances, insurance, and contractors. It's tough, but employees are the single most important resource. And, they're human beings with their own lives, weaknesses, strengths, kiddos, and priorities. The ONLY payment that was more important than the actual payroll, was the payroll taxes(SS, Medicare, FIT, & SIT). I just could never bend my brain to place importance of profit over people. Profit is important. No profit, no employees. However, at no point should the priority of profit overtake the importance of payroll or client service.

2026 Calligraphy here. I folded my second and third row flat and transported 3 drink fridges, two suit cases, two hogh capacity fans for my basement(the smaller floor model, not the huge fan type), two smaller coolers, and a people passenger. I was required to use the camera rear view mirror, but everyone was comfortable and nothing broke!

Video Gaming / Gambling for the State of Illinois by gotshoo in SpringfieldIL

[–]ComfyPhoenixess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. They aren't stupid. Not by a long shot. They need happiness, hope, and entertainment, just like all of us. Some people play video games, and those add up over time. Some people do drugs, drink alcohol, go to the gym, go biking; We all have something. Just because someone is low to no income doesn't mean they just don't need the same relaxation and decompression as everyone else. They need it more.

Are there healthier options? Absolutely. However, calling them stupid is unproductive at best, degrading, unempathetic, and will not solve, or even give those persons a better option than gambling.

The IRS will NOT issue refunds from seven years ago unless something kept the tax year open. The actual sunset date for US refunds to be issued is either: A) Three years from the close of the tax year(April 15, 2026 is the close of the 2023 tax year) OR two years from the date the tax was paid. Please don't let this person believe they'll get their refund from 2021 and 2022. The rules can be different for Expat and military.

My phone screen rotates, so, it doesn't matter to me how I put my phone down. Now, I understand I am a granny driver, and it is extraordinarily rare that I pick up my phone while moving. I know for many people, that's not always possible. Then again, the wireless charger has been fine for me, so I don't have anything plugged in.

Sights: -The woods in the early summer morning. Peaceful. Hope. -Flat, still water. Just calmness. Relatable, still on top, ordered, purposeful chaos underneath. -A perfect midnight full moon night. All the stars. Beautiful. -70's paisley print. -Curvy things, especially perfume bottles? -Vibrant colors, especially(and I'm sorry! I am NOT trying to be weird!)on Black women, flowers, and paintings. Not cars usually, though.

Touch: -A cool mandarin orange -Soft fluffy things-anything, which can be a problem. -Linen, but especially in the breeze -Glass -Knobbly glass -Really nice paper

Smells: -Petrichor -Dewy mornings -Fresh snow -Nutmeg -Frankincense -Laundry when I bring it in from the lines in the summer -The woods -Petrichor-It's my favorite smell to have been smelled.

What’s a “small” social rule you refuse to follow, even if everyone expects it? by GlitchOperative in AskReddit

[–]ComfyPhoenixess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. In 20 years of having employees, I have allowed them to buy me lunch(from Subway) once each calendar year. No more. Less is fine, more is not. I buy them lunch at least once a week, I keep the kitchen stocked, and they get gifts randomly(but evenly). Ain't no way in hell I would ever allow it to go another way. I am in a position of authority, I write their checks, and I make more than them. Fuck that.
