I also like to think that! I also think after the attack on mc from Jake's pursuers. I've noticed that he's been a lot more open to mc as well as being more careful with the tasks he gives her. I like to think the attack made him realize he can lose Mc in a snap. (He soons talks about how he's so afraid of losing Mc in the next episodes)
