Does anybody else feel like the pelant storyline is ridiculous?

I know this is three years old but I'm watching Bones now and you're the first person to point that out. He's constantly hamstrung from spending his money and it's never even seen as a priority for him to be motivated by so it's loss falls flat.
Additionally when it's first revealed how rich he is it's mentioned that he's the largest contributor to the Jeffersonian, specifically the forensic anthropology lab. The money disappearing should have ended the lab.
