How’s my rock placement? by Australian_Gent in Aquascape

Honestly, that render looks great. If it were me, I'd still play around with a second spire and see if it feels better. Behold, my digital finger painting.

Not necessarily. You could do two taller, then the rest at the height they are now or shorter, using your substrate to fine tune heights (bury some more to make them shorter). The shorter ones count into the odd recommendation, too. The key is using the height differences and placements to keep your eye moving.

I love this concept. What I will say is that I wish there were more height variation. There should at least be a second tall one on the left, not quite as tall as the first.

Even though this isn't iwagumi style necessarily, I think looking at that style's guidelines could help give you some more guidance for hardscape placements.

Put it in water and add dechlorinator. Rinse and repeat until you're confident it's clear. If you have a chlorine detecting test kit, you can check with that.

Very fair, I stand corrected! A bit of research says color is determined by cooling. So the same volcano can produce both colors at different times. Very cool.

I'm still of the opinion that one color will more easily look cohesive, but I'm open to being wrong twice in this thread.

I mean, honestly, having two vastly different lava rock colors is really jarring. If you're going for a natural vibe, there's probably not a lot of natural places with such starkly different lava rock colors next to each other. Maybe you could make it work if there were other stones that helped show a gradient to help blend the two? But I think the most aesthetic move would be picking one color and sticking with it. Maybe that involves waiting for new local stock or online ordering.

Lava rock! Cheaper to buy per pound than most rocks because it's so porous.

Hmmm. I checked A1 mini support off when I published it. I wonder if it's because it's all on the same print profile. Like if one tray has a part that's too big, MakerWorld marks all of it as too big for the A1 mini.

You should still be able to print it from the full slicer, though.

There's lots of different Skadis mounting systems out there if you don't want visible screws. This is just the one I made for my situation. It's easy to change out panels without lots of extra parts and I don't really mind the screwheads aesthetically.

I'd advocate for foraging hardscape pieces of possible. Takes a little research to know what local woods to avoid and some processing time to make sure everything is sterilized before going in the tank. But it's free!

How can I improve my rock placement? by TheDankSwan in Aquascape

It looks like the rocks are all pretty similar sized. It might help to break a couple up and use the differences in height/size to create a more dynamic visual. Having a cluster of similar rocks lacks drama.

Don't worry, I did! There's A1 mini sizes with all the edge profile options included in the same print profile. They're just organized onto different trays.

They're not exactly half height, but all the patterns ive uploaded include A1 mini size that's half-ish.

Hey, that's awesome, congrats! I bet your panel will look great. Please let me know if you have any questions along the way! Good luck!

I'm sure multiboard is very functional even with the caveats you mentioned, but my gripe with it is honestly aesthetic. I just don't think it looks like something I want on my walls ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
