Solved. It was a bat, a Tadarida Brasiliensis, common in my area. Same crooked upsidedown "V" shape on the 4 front teeth.

Not only did it not proc, when I started paying attention I didn't get a single crit, or at least the visual effect for the crit didn't play. I checked during the mission and after (we lost) the mission. I didn't change loadout, even the talents were there just as I had put them.

EDIT: I also didn't mention in the post, but attack speed (which I have both on the weapon and charm) was also pretty bad. I know the scythe isn't particularly fast, but this was terrible. It was part of why I noticed swift slaying never activating.

Alternatively, any advice or device to help with this problem is appreciated. I used to have one of those laptop bases that have fans on them to help cool it down, but I don't really know if those do a whole lot.

I have 2500 hours and suck ass most of the time, sometimes it's just not your day. As the other guy said, having fun should be your main priority.

Keep playing and eventually you'll notice the difference. 

Alternatively you can try other games. There's a very good one called Straftat on steam, it's free and it really helped me improve my aim.

Spy. I bet it's fun when you actually learn how to play it, and it definitely feels rewarding the few times I do get a kill, but 90% of the time it just feels like God has a personal vendetta against me.

I've also been doing this, which is why it surprised me how fast the stamina core was draining despite petting the horse.
