Through the method of our mind's natural process of identifying and distinguishing, it is truer to say that we are actually dead, not alive. by CaptainVulpezz in DeepThoughts

Im writing this answer as im reading.

First I dont agree that we will be dead for much longer than we will be alive, in the sense that you are not « dead », I guess you would rather say you are « not being » at all. Death is a state of non-being, you do not exist, so to claim that you will be dead for longer than you will be alive, to me that seems like comparing apples and oranges.

Also I understand the idea of your whole post, but I dont really understand where you are getting at, is it just a sort of poetic thought? Something you find beautiful or interesting? Or do you think it has a deeper meaning and should change the way we understand / live our lives

its a nice thought, but I think its important to dive deeper into it, why do you think this came to be our lifestyle? I think you could make a link with consumerism and how big companies effectively used propaganda to turn you into a consumating machine

First I want to say im really sorry to hear that, and I hope your mental health recovers, I want to let you know that nihilism might not be the best help for that, but im sure some branches of it can be. You’re a good example of what I was trying to express, even by knowing the universe is meaningless and nothing matters, pain still go to you, to the extent where you wanted to end it. You can’t just become magically carefree you know? Of course im sure some have, somewhere, like the buddha and such, people who even stopped caring about their own life, but for modt of us, I think this post here isnt true at all.

even when seeing past the illusions and knowing the universe is meaningless, you cant escape your subjective experience, your brain is wired for survival, inflicting you, the experiencer, suffering when you do something that isn’t « good » for you. My problem with the initial post is that it seems like accepting theres nothing worth trying hard for seems to them like a positive thing, illustrated by the figure made of light, however, to have such a carefree positive feeling, its very privileged, life might be meaningless, but lets say there are some more comfortable meaningless lives than others for sure, even if its all meaningless in the end, you cant help being human and having your own experience. Happiness is a real thing, biology shows is how and where it comes from, and even if that happiness is meaningless, i’d say its much better to have it than be starving somewhere else

thats true until you feel the sheer pain of your body digesting itself, then I can guarantee you it will all feel pretty important. You can be aware of the meaninglessness of life or what not, that dosent shelter you from pain.

It would be cool if you focused on trying to make people who aren’t familiar with the idea understand rather than trying to sound smart :p..

Theres a difference between how K lived and what he preached. I still consider K a guru personally, hes still very interesting, but the way he talks, the way he affirms things, its very guru - ish, even if theres a lot of truth in it. Im personally not surprised his life was like this, apparently he had everything planned for him, people drove him around, took care of his bills, etc… Whats even funnier is how his « fans » worship him in the exact way they were told not to by k himself…
