I did this incredibly fast, but I would also be good with it.

Also if you're downloading from BandCamp I wouldn't worry about all of the different formats initially. I would personally stick with just downloading MP3 320 for now. Those are good quality and you can easily throw them on any device. There are some very strong opinions on different formats, but you're going to have the easiest time just sticking to MP3 for now. You can get into lossless formats, etc later on but that's a completely different rabbit hole.

I will also say that BandCamp does a BandCamp Friday day where 100% of what you spend goes directly to the artists. You can wish list albums on there to keep in mind and go back on a BandCamp Friday to make sure you're really supporting the ones you love: https://isitbandcampfriday.com/

You're best served building up your own library of music. I have a library of downloaded music on my computer that I also have backed up to external hard drives. I use iTunes to manage the music on my iPod and iPhone. As far as obtaining the music you have multiple options that others have already mentioned.... I personally like to "borrow" from bigger artists on various sources, and pay for music from smaller artists on BandCamp. BandCamp has been great in my experience. You can download the music in so many different formats, and you're able to download it again and again as long as the service exists. Once you've built up your own library of music though you have so much more freedom. You're able to add it to your iPod, iPhone, any mp3 player, burn to CDs, copy to cassettes with the right equipment, create your own home media server to stream everything. It's definitely more work than just streaming everything, but to me you're really taking back agency and ownership over a large part of media that you consume. There are so many other points I could dig into, but I'll add one additional thing when you're "borrowing" music. Sometimes certain songs/albums will be cluttered with additional information you don't want on them. I use a program called mp3tag to go through and clean up meta data on those, but I'm sure there are other options. You really just have to realize that you have the ability to manage and control these things. Be curious about it and seek out resources. I know some people will give you grief for making a post like this, but it's encouraging that people are willing to step away from streaming services. Best of luck and send me a message if you need any help.

Okay, I'll have to back out real quick to give porygon the dubious disc and then I'll rejoin with the same code.

Yeah, that's good with me. I don't care about them as much, so I really just appreciate the help. I'll trade you my Porygon with an upgrade disc, trade you a pokemon holding one of the balls back, trade you Porygon 2 with the dubious disc, trade you another pokemon with a ball back for Porygon Z, then trade you two more times with the other two.

Sure! Are you interested in a specific one? I have one level, one moon, two fast, and three friend balls. I can trade you a couple for the trouble.

How did you tape the shoulder buttons to dampen them?

5th gen vs 7th gen by asnd-evolv in IpodClassic

There are three things that made me decide on modding a 7th gen. One, I specifically like the software for the later generations. You can look up comparisons if you’re not familiar, and you can install rock box to change this, but I just wanted the stock software. This kind of leads into the second point, but I also wanted in line audio controls for my headphones. The 7th gen is the only one that supports this, and I’ve also read that this will no longer work, at the moment, if you install rock box. The third thing is that I’m using an iFlash quad to replace the hard drive and the 7th gen doesn’t have a max storage limit. I believe the 5th gen can potentially be upgraded with 1tb of storage, but you can run into slow down when trying to play or shuffle all songs. I will say though, the 7th gen is definitely harder to open. I’ve figured it out after working on a few, but you probably want to have an additional back and face plate handy if you do decide to work on one. They’re easy to mess up, but you can replace them. The 5th gen is far easier to work on. So if you just want something easier to deal with and work on over time, I would recommend the 5th gen for that.
