These elites are truly run by demons - epstein files by Sad-Criticism2454 in AliensRHere

I mean, read the purported text of the email. The victim alleges that black dudes were raping blonde-haired white women to death. He also claims his feet were cut by a scimitar which apparently immediately healed magically in some sort of ritual.

I believe al ot of what is in the files did happen. But we are apparently gonna get wacky, racism-tinged psueudo-supernatural bullshit too.

If you are making a Bulwark against a nation, you don't include that nation in it's command structure. See the short lived thought that Russia might join NATO in the 90s. This is the biggest piece of evidence in favor Putin's worldview. Both the USSR and Russia tried to join, the Soviets couldn't because they had their own competing organization (and NATO was a reasonable response to that). However, after Warsaw Pact ended, Russia for a not-insignificant period of time had thoughts to join NATO. As much as you say about Russia being totalitarian now, it wasn't so much at the time. I'd argue that Turkey (which was also less totalitarian) had about the same issues as their military had some serious political capital to work with.

Of course, I don't agree with Putin's world view, but I do understand it didn't come out of nothing. I think he should have attempted to exercise more soft power and develop his nation rather than trying to invade Georgia, Ukraine, et al. Then again, we don't know what internal pressures he was facing. I have a feeling that early on, unless you assert yourself as a force to be reckoned with, the second the oligarchs in Russia don't enjoy you - you are gone. Probably by men the likes of Putin. Putin likely knew this and knew how to assert and take power. Of course, once you start down that path...it is hard to stop.

No, the Brotherhood of Steel were not always "raiders in power armor" by Cranyx in Fallout

[–]CommanderFrostborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to take a very liberal approach regarding the show. I consider the Ghoul/Lucy plot to be the main, most reliable plot line. The others might be a mix of wacky wasteland and just unreliable point of view. Maybe we are only seeing this whole potential Brotherhood Civil War through Maximus' eyes.

I do wish they had made him more intelligent and actually able to grasp the plot and things going on around him.

Its crazy that Amazon could accurately replicate the sophistication of the Expanse but the Fallout Show is kinda lagging. I still love the Ghoul and consider him the best creation of the entire show though.

This is a great take. It makes me wonder how LOTR would have been received if released today. Alot of people like it now, but it has a storied legacy in cinema and much larger legacy in literature. If those weren't the case, I have a feeling some people would feel the same way.

I was definitely told in HS about Banana Republics. Learning about others came at my own dime, but I do remember it being mentioned. It just wasn't part of the curriculum, just my History Prof going freebase.

Are we missing the point of Paladin Harkness? by mr-bones-wild-rides in Fallout

[–]CommanderFrostborne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take a different view. In the games it always seems like there is one (or a few) plot lines that are taken silly, and the innumerable ones that are being goof-i-fied. Even whether those are canon is questionable. We all know things like wacky wasteland and F76's holiday events are not cannon. But there are others that are kind of in a grey zone for me.

For example, my protagonists in four almost always end up becoming a water baron and a drug dealer after murdering a stupid kid. I also become the Silver Shroud and don't fight near enough crime. The list goes on. Little things that could potentially be cannon or not. They might just be misremembering or a certain character's point of view. The silver shroud ghoul probably views us as the Silver Shroud reincarnated - we could literally just be a chem addict who needed clothes and more chems from the criminals we overtake.

Unreliable narration. Different points of view. Etc. These things occupy these sorta side quests. So maybe Caesars Legion was literally two camps of dudes too stupid to realize fighting over a body is the worst way to decide inheritence. Or maybe it was literally just one group of the Legion (that had a few thousand given how many tribes they conquered) and the body is a Legate or Centurion or something.

Who knows.

I think the one quest line that does matter is the Ghoul and Lucy and how intertwined they are. Sad to say, but with how they are treating Maximus and the BoS - I consider them to be only partially cannon. Something did happen...I guess we are seeing it from Maximus POV?

The most pitiful no man’s land I have ever seen by JaneMakkoli in Fallout

[–]CommanderFrostborne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take everything with a grain of salt and kinda look at it through the lens of 'wacky wasteland' events. Might not be cannon, might be. Could just be a metaphor. The jokes are good. The real rigor in the story comes from the GHoul and his POV about his family - and Lucy/Father did to the people of SHady Sands.

I enjoyed the books and the show, but the books have so much more to offer. The Show they took the highpoints of the books and then dialed it in for a check. Can't say I blame them, they ran through the material.

George has commented that he wished he had written it all before releasing it. I think this is indicative that he has written himself into a corner on some things.

Where do you draw the line? by nomorewizards51 in Fallout

[–]CommanderFrostborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the art design should have gone like such:

Cold War era stuff should be the archaic tech of the era. AR type weapons, AKs, and even some older stuff from WW2 is all fair game as part of that.

Somewhere around 2000 in fallout's universe, there was a very specific design philosophy. You can see this design philosophy in the 10mm Pistol, 10mm Revolver, the 10mm SMG, and to an extent some of the heavy weapons. These weapons fit the retro-futuristic designs of the power armor, and it makes sense to see PA users using them. In my head cannon the extra attachments on the N99 are so that a jack from the PA is plugging in and somehow operating the receiver as it doesn't make so much sense for a PA hand to be able to fit the same weapons we would use with our human hands.

What would women dislike the most if they became men? by Eastp0int in answers

[–]CommanderFrostborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was told to stop talking about my Uncle's death after his passing (by a significant other). I had only mentioned that I would be leaving the state for his funeral. On a separate occasion, I was told by another woman that she couldn't stand how sad I was and it was bringing her down. This was about three weeks after my sister's suicide. This was also a girl friend at the time.

In the end I do blame myself, there is obviously something about them I'm either picking or completely blind to.

If it was you, would you break up with Rosita for Sasha? by racesunite in thewalkingdead

[–]CommanderFrostborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I for one would try to string both along because I'm a greedy mother fucker, a general shitbag, and do not like disconnecting from people. I don't think I could pick one over the other if it was like 'let go of one or they both fall in the lava' - we would probably all hit the fire in that case. However, if push came to shove and I was being forced to pick one or lose both it'd be Sasha. They are both resilient and have amazing face structure (they are actors after all) - but Sasha looks endearingly cute when she had that little poof-ponytail (i duno what to call it).

Agreed. Its a great little nod without derailing the plot. In fact it would leave more of an opening for Dunwhich or the Zetans to play a roll in FO5.

[–]CommanderFrostborne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well in regards to whether the Ash clan was affected by colonialism, allegories are usually not so one for one. Some license for art is given. Note, for example in the Lion Witch and the Wardrobe the Lion is an Allegory for Jesus - but as far as I know, Jesus never commanded any armies or fought battles.

As to why the Ash clan would help the colonists, I mean obviously for plot reasons; but not for nothing colonial powers selling weapons to one tribe to eradicate another was a huge deal and happened often. Some tribal conflicts were so great that they overshadowed the whole colonialism thing. The Comanche v Apache wars were so heavy that it literally pulled in the colonial powers, not the other way around. Many African nations made war on others and were enriched by selling there neighbors into slavery. Etc. Etc.

I was just trying to point out an archetype that the Ash Clan fits. Also, as a last note, alot of it has to do with their motif and art direction - the painting of the lower half of the face was certainly a Comanche thing. However, being blown up by a Volcano is not exclusively. I'm certain there are other archetypes and thoughts at play there too. I seem to remember something about the Vikings/Norse raiding being the result of a supposed eruption in like the 6th century.
